I've had a look and didn't see a thread. He's had his sentence increased to 13 years 5 months. Good. He deserves every fucking second.

I thought I'd read somewhere he'd died. Why do I think that? I recall reading it over the summer time and saying to DH... 'oh, Oscar pistorius is dead'. I must have false memory syndrome.

A little bit of good news - and I am pleased to see that most commentators seem to agree.

Now that is good news to take into the weekend. Finally something approaching a just sentence for a horrific murder by an unrepentant abuser. RIP Reeva.

How do the SA sentences work? Will he serve the full term or only half of it like often happens in the UK?

It still seems short for what he did. Would a black or even white, non celebrity male have got the same sentence? Male white celebrity privilege trumps male white privilege.

@JoWithABow people in the uk serve all of their life sentence. They often serve more. Life sentence tariff (eg 15y) is the minimum to serve. It's different from other sentence types.

If he had been black, a SWAT team would have shot him at the scene.
