Football Books and Trans Football Fic

I'm looking for a football tips and tricks book for a 10 year old girl. One that features non-token girls, with no further comment.

No 'girls can play football too!' or 'Girls on the attack!' type stuff or anything that mentions 'women's football' (surely just football?) Football. Featuring as many girls as boys.

  1. Does anyone have any tips?
  1. I (stupidly?) typed 'Football Girl Books' into Amazon. Came away horrified and very uneasy about the amount of transgender coming of age football stories. Free to Kindle books written by - it seems, given the comments, which were all I read - AGP men. Although sometimes, also given the comments, read by teens.

I'm deeply queasy about it and had no idea. The book descriptions aren't sexual in nature, but, once you know about AGP, it's easy to spot what's going on in at least some cases. Surely writing about minors as part of a fetish is illegal? I'll complain to Amazon for what it's worth. Is there anything else I can do, given that there seems to be nothing overtly sexual about the content?

  1. No tips on books BUT
  1. I put the same search engine in and found loads of genuine football books for girls (including a whole series by Frank Lampard - who knew?!) but not the sort of thing you found?

OlennasWimple Hmm. Well I'm glad to hear that they didn't show up straight away, which means that they're not as easily accessible as I thought. Maybe your algorithm is somehow different? I read Kindle books all the time and never usually football books, so maybe it's showing me Kindle lit first?

Will check out Frank Lampard (good for him!) Thanks.

I'm hesitant to link to the books here, because I'm basically accusing the authors of writing about kids and teens for sexual kicks. But they're certainly there...

The Frank Lampard books are good - we have a few of them. Two boys and a girl as the main characters, and a magic football which transports them into different situations.

Unfortunately I can't remember the name or author, but we bought a book in exactly the category you're after - football tips and training and skills - with girls and boys in equal numbers in the illustrations, for a friend of DS's birthday. Just having a browse in Waterstones might do the trick (that was where we found it I think).

Aha, I remembered right - among the series by Frank Lampard there's one called "The Grizzly Games" which was written as a tie in for the last women's World Cup in Canada. Frankie and his friends end up transported to the Canadian Rockies where there is a girls' football tournament going on!

They might be a little young for a ten year old - I think they're probably aimed at 7 and 8 year olds. Though the Grizzly Games one is a bit longer than the others (I have just raided DS's bookshelves and have four of them next to me).

PricklyBall thank you! They sound brilliant. The child I'm buying for struggles with reading, so the Lampard books might be ideal. Will also check out Waterstones for the tips and tricks book.
