Feminist Discrimination

On radio 4 woman's hour the two presenters, Jane Garvey and Jenny Murrey declare themselves as feminist, and as such many of the items discussed discriminate against men.
Is this fair as the BBC is supposed to fair, impartial, and not to discriminate on grounds of gender.
Half the population has no voice on the BBC as it is Male, this does not seem to be in keeping with impartiality to me, what do you think ?.

Those sodding flashbacks. They annoy me on so many levels. They are absolutely ubiquitous in high quality drama which completely ruins it for me. Then it's horrible to think that lots of people men find such sights enjoyable as they presumably must in order to want to produce and watch so much of it. And finally I can't help feeling I'm being given a message every time I turn on the TV "behave yourself and do as you're told because it could be so much worse" or similar Angry

BertrandRussell · 13/11/2017 11:04

"women talking... for a whole hour

Well, three-quarters of one!"

And sometimes the drama/book in the last 15 minutes is written by a woman too. It's so hard for men to get their voices heard or their work showcased. Woman's Hour is just the last straw.

It's too much Bertrand.
There used to be a Mens Hour programme on Radio 5, but not enough women listened so they had to pull the plug. The one place to cover men's issues, and the women ruined it. I blame feminists. No interest at all in men's issues. Not surprising they are so marginalised.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 13/11/2017 11:19

The thing is, I guess you could make an argument that while there's Woman's Hour, there's a tacit acceptance of the status quo which is - men discussing things with other men. Reports about how a man's wife and a man's daughter were killed but the man's other daughter wasn't killed; men discussing the incarceration of a woman because another man said a stupid thing but two different men think it's nothing to worry about.... I suppose you could say that WH, by hiving off women talking, suggests that the rest is okay and natural and will continue.

You could argue that, although that would be flawed in various ways. But what you absolutely can't argue is that WH is anti-men, a problem for men, discriminates against men, or marginalizes men.

BertrandRussell · 13/11/2017 11:20

I blame feminists for everything. Including Tom Robinson going straight.*

*this is vaguely relevant in the context of Men's Hour.

WhereYouLeftIt · 13/11/2017 11:25

"Half the population has no voice on the BBC as it is Male, this does not seem to be in keeping with impartiality to me, what do you think ?."

What the fuck are you on?

You're talking about one single, solitary, radio program. It's called Woman's Hour, it isn't even an hour long it's 45 minutes because the other 15 minutes is taken up by a drama. 45 minutes out of the whole 24 hours of the day. On one radio station, out of the many the BBC broadcast. Oh, and they do some TV as well. How does this one program translate in your mind to 'men have no voice in the BBC'? Seriously, how?

GinIsIn · 13/11/2017 11:54

Absolutely. You know what's worse? Children's TV & Radio. Totally discriminates against grown ups. And why doesn't the BBC broadcast any programmes targeted at my dog? It's caninism, that's what it is.

IhaveapenIhavepineapple · 13/11/2017 12:15

What a lot of shite.

vesuvia · 13/11/2017 12:17

OP wrote - "the two presenters, Jane Garvey and Jenny Murrey declare themselves as feminist, and as such many of the items discussed discriminate against men"

These two women are the presenters. As such, they present the programme, they do not decide the programme's content. The producers and editor decide the content.

BertrandRussell · 13/11/2017 12:19

"What a lot of shite"

It's people like you who give feminists a bad name. We need to find ways to engage with men! We can't expect them to be on our side and support us if we're shorty and aggressive. And it is all about equality, after all.

RagingFemininist · 13/11/2017 12:24

The OP seems to have disappeared.
What a shame....

RagingFemininist · 13/11/2017 12:25

Bertrand does it also work the other way around when men are mansplaining what women say or are getting aggressive when someone is point8ng the finger at what they do (and they dint like it?)??

paxillin · 13/11/2017 12:28

Terrible that the Woman's Hour is now on 24 hours a day on all channels Should be either 24 hours on half the channels or 12 hours on all of them.

Oh, wait, it's 1 hour, 5 days a week on 1 channel? Well...

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 13/11/2017 12:30

It's the 'as such' that is so especially ludicrous in the passage quoted above!
'He campaigns against the discrimination against BME people, as as such discriminates against white people'

Popchyk · 13/11/2017 12:35

I can't believe this.

Tom Robinson is straight?

IhaveapenIhavepineapple · 13/11/2017 12:49

Bertrand I reckon the OP is a GF and has no interest in engaging.

WhatWouldGenghisDo · 13/11/2017 13:02

I was watching Gardeners World the other day and it was incredibly discriminatory against people who aren't interested in gardening. Our existence wasn't even acknowledged Sad

Popchyk · 13/11/2017 13:13

I've noticed that, Genghis.

Monty Don is an utter bastard, chuntering on about hardy perennials and those bloody grapes in his greenhouse. The bigot.

Not once did he mention Kanye West.

Or toffees.

OP - why aren't you worried about the male suicide rate or prostate cancer or countries which kidnap and recruit boy soldiers? Surely you have more important things to worry about?

IhaveapenIhavepineapple · 13/11/2017 13:43

Monty Don is an utter bastard GrinGrin

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 13/11/2017 13:50

I just listened to 'The Wo(man)rld at (W)One(men) - disgraceful. They had a lady on talking about adoption, which totally undermined all the men talking to other men about other men.

WHERE ARE THE MEN?

QuentinSummers · 13/11/2017 13:50

Yep good point scallops. It's the epitome of white menenism

PickAChew · 13/11/2017 13:59

You should listen to radio 2 instead, OP. They tend not to let us pesky women loose on anything more challenging than the travel news.

Or you could go back to your cave.
