Is drag blackface for women?

I feel a bit like it is. I see Mary Cheney compared the two. As drag artists exaggerate negative female stereotypes in their performances. This view has been criticised as blackface was more widespread, and, white men were in the power position impersonating men while drag performers are a minority themselves.... but does one minority impersonating another make it ok? Would bkackface have been ok if it was more limited historically? I don't think so. I am beginning to feel uncomfortable with drag, as a woman.

Lass thanks for the tips Hmm. My clothes are tight because my period just started and I'm bloated. I'm wearing a looser skirt today.

I'm happy for you that you work in a role that allows you to dress in whatever way you like. I don't work in such a role, however. I only wear this sort of clobber for work, but my "reluctant performance of femininity" point doesn't really make sense if applied to my weekend or home clothes, which is why I made it in relation to how I am expected to present myself at work.

It's not a simple issue for me.
I liked Paul O' Grady's "Lilly Savage" but even as a child I was unhappy with les Dawson's "female " characters and loathed pantomime dames.
