She died five years ago today after being refused a medical abortion in Galway. Events held all over Ireland to remember her, including one where anti-abortionists felt the need to hold a counter protest. Meanwhile, the Eighth Amendment has yet to be repealed and Irish women come across the sea in their tens of thousands each year for terminations.

We should continue to remember.

Goodness, I can’t believe that was five years ago - still feels so recent.

drquin · 28/10/2017 21:33

Indeed .... I was living in ireland at the time, and followed her story closely. Heartbreaking.

Youcanttaketheskyfromme · 28/10/2017 21:34

I also cannot believe it's been 5 years.

They as good as murdered her. They let her die for nothing.

Lottapianos · 28/10/2017 21:35

Thanks for the reminder. What a horrifying story. She was a dentist so had some medical training and would have known how dangerous her situation was. Sickening.

BertrandRussell · 28/10/2017 21:37

Remembering.

McTufty · 28/10/2017 21:41

RIP Savita

LillyLollyLandy · 28/10/2017 22:00

I was thinking about her earlier this week. Can’t believe it’s been 5 years. Has anything changed? I doubt it. Sickening.

Seeingadistance · 28/10/2017 22:04

I remember.

wobblywonderwoman · 28/10/2017 22:07

alphaechokiwi · 28/10/2017 22:07

Tinkhasflown · 28/10/2017 22:23

RIP Savita.
Five years and nothing has changed.
Repeal the 8th.

peanut2017 · 28/10/2017 23:01

RIP Savita - can’t believe 5 years have passed. Such an unnecessary waste of her life. Things have to change in Ireland

MrsTerryPratchett · 29/10/2017 00:30

5 years ago... doesn't seem like it could be.

When you could save someone and choose to let them die. It's unconscionable.

SophoclesTheFox · 29/10/2017 08:00

Five years, my goodness, has it been that long already?

Remembering Savita and all the women whose lives have been affected by this barbaric and backwards system.

Repeal the 8th.

Ereshkigal · 29/10/2017 12:55

RIP Savita.

Repeal.
