Sam Smith feels as much of a man as a woman because he likes wearing high heels and make-up

I try to keep an open mind, but sorry, how does he know what it feels like to be a woman if he's never been one? He says he feels as much as a woman as a man because he likes wearing heels, make-up and fur coats... Confused Is that all he thinks being a woman comes down to? These people say they're breaking down boundaries but it seems to me they're just reinforcing old stereotypes. Gender fluid sorts can be the most sexist people in how they express their male or female identities.

Wearing heels and make-up doesn't make you somewhat a woman... You're a camp gay man, get over it. Grin

Sam, bless his gender-non-conforming cotton socks, is not the sharpest tool in the box. Do you not remember how he was the first out gay man ever to win as Oscar? (Spoiler - he totally wasn’t, he’s just not good with the fact checking).

I’m confused, I can’t wear heels, as they tend to flare up my (childbirth induced) haemorrhoids, does this make me a man?

Well, Stella, according to RuPaul, you're not very good at being a woman. Apparently.

Good job I don't need to be good at being a woman.
I am one.

I didn't know who he was either, I thought Sam Smith was a brewery. But now I do know, yes, he seems very dull and vanilla, and I hate this trend for people singing in whiny, nasal voices.

SaskiaApparently he wrote a Bond theme (I've only seen one Bond film decades ago)

He won an Oscar for that song and (in)famously accepted smugly saying what an honour it was to be the first openly gay man to win an Oscar. The entire audience was like Hmm

Ah Evil, I didn't see your post. Grin

Lass Same here. I haven't seen a Bond film for years either - I think Timothy Dalton was in the last one I watched.

If he thinks he can redefine what it means to be a woman, maybe he has also redefined what it means to be gay - so all those other gay Oscar winners weren't gay like him.

I've never seen a "Bond film" and doubt I ever will and agree that from what I've heard, Sam Smith's music is incredibly dull. I don't know much about him beyond this patronising nonsense about "feeling like a woman" because he loves shopping and high heels.

That's another thread that runs through this. Someone does something that's actually unremarkable, it's been done by others for years, but has a tantrum unless they're told they're being brave and breaking new ground.

Ferzackly, Oliversmum

Waaay back in the late 70s when I was at university I was v young, a child prodigy a drag queen said to me that he thought not shaving legs was "naff." I smiled politely, but thought to myself it was pretty ridiculous a man trying to tell me how to be a woman better.

They're still at it, aren't they?

I agree that he is not the sharpest tool in the box, he has very poor sensibilities IMHO. He wore this a few weeks ago:

An R Kelly T shirt FFS!

Wormulonian, you've won the thread! That says it all. This is someone who thinks it's okay to wear an R Kelly t-shirt, how can anything he says be taken seriously?!

Weirdly, after posting on this thread, I'm seeing adverts for Sam Smith's latest album. Even his targeted advertising is out of sync with reality.

Sam Smith does seem to tend towards the solipsistic - just ask the late Tom Petty.

Like all accidents, musical accidents are more likely to befall those who spend a lot of time in their own little worlds.

Interestingly, Stay with Me still won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year, 2015.

When is Woman of the Year 2017 announced? I’d say he has an excellent chance of winning.

Sam Smith seems to be very, very dumb.

He didn't even know who Thom Yorke is....

Fine to not know who he is if you're older/not that into music of course!!! (Radiohead)

But a young musician? Pfffttt.....Confused

Yes. Timing, seeing as his new album is being promoted? Hmm

Not only is he not bright, he’s really stupid, but he’s more and more unlikeable, the more you read about him.
