So seems as good a time as any to share this.

Well, he bought the plot next to her in 92? I think. She was the first playmate you know, so very special to him. I think it's very sad, seen as a sex symbol and dumb blonde for all eternity and now the final insult.

Wheresmytaco · 28/09/2017 09:49

She wasn't even a playmate, she didn't pose for him did she. It was old photos taken before she was famous.

Maudlinmaud · 28/09/2017 09:54

Maybe. They used the pics to launch the first issue, didn't they? I might have my facts wrong but I can't be arsed googling it will just depress me.

GuardianLions · 28/09/2017 10:38

I just found this article and it has a video of the actual footage of HH referring to Susan Brownmiller as a 'girl'

actual footage of HH referring to Susan Brownmiller as a 'girl

Hugh started fumbling around with his pipe when she called him on that. I bet he had words with his press agent after that one.

DavetheCat2001 · 28/09/2017 11:55

Oh bore off Crowdo.

Go and troll elsewhere.

Crowdo · 28/09/2017 12:20

Is that the best answer you can come up with, Dave? Rather ironic for someone insulting the intelligence of others.

Dunno crowdo. It got the point across pretty well I'd say.

OP posts:
danTDM · 28/09/2017 12:24

I'm sorry for his family and that is all. A nasty piece of work, can't see why it's news. Who cares?

Terfing · 28/09/2017 12:29

Good riddance. Hopefully this will be the end of his 'magazine' too!

Crowdo · 28/09/2017 12:30

I'm surprised you think mentioning the size of someone's breasts in the same sentence as their intelligence is really appropriate for a feminist discussion, OP.

Maudlinmaud · 28/09/2017 12:38

The magazine has all but died since moving online anyway. I wouldn't be surprised to see a resurgence of that stupid logo, we where bombarded with a few years ago. I remember teaching children who where wearing it emblazoned on their coats and school bags. I suppose it will be seen as "nostalgic" now.

DJBaggySmalls · 28/09/2017 12:58

“We are in the process of acquiring a new moral maturity and honesty,” he wrote while keeping a straight face.

HemlockIsSpartacus · 28/09/2017 13:04

Good riddance.

And all the idiots claiming he was some sort of positive force for women's sexual liberation can fuck right off

Slimthistime · 28/09/2017 13:20

Dan "I'm sorry for his family and that is all."

it's entirely possible they are relieved as well!

DavetheCat2001 · 28/09/2017 13:58

Did he have children?

danTDM · 28/09/2017 13:59

Slim Grin True!

tinymeteor · 28/09/2017 14:04

Only thing Hefner ever liberated was his penis.

Lottapianos · 28/09/2017 15:15

Shelagh Fogarty is discussing this now on LBC. She has suggested that far from being some kind of hero, he was just a dirty old man who abused young women. Good stuff

Sadly, she's discussing Hugh Hefner with Peter Stringfellow Envy That's a vom face by the way. She almost got him to admit that he would not want his daughter to enter his foul industry. She suggested that the young women who were involved in Hefner's businesses went into 'a snake pit' and his highly original response was 'well they were paid weren't they?'. Ick.

Shelagh has slightly ruined it all now by telling Stringfellow that he is 'very likeable' Hmm

I'm desperate for Julie Bindel to be the next caller Grin

interesting article by Suzanne Moore

Shocking attention given to such a bad man. But he didn't force those girls/womens into doing anything they didn't want to do themselves.

I don't see people hurling abuse at those girls though...

Ohwell14 · 28/09/2017 17:36

I'm pretty sure all the woman in the playboy mansion and the magazine had minds of their own.
Has there been any claims that he forced any women to do things. Nope. They did it because they wanted to. Just because he was a lot older than them doesn't mean he was always the one in the wrong.
People make their own choices and clearly the women wanted some form of money or fame.

HemlockIsSpartacus · 28/09/2017 17:47

Are you saying you want people to do this?

Of course no one on the feminism board is yelling at the women - yes women, they weren't prepubescent, no need to use the infantilising term - as most of the people here understand the context of their choices.

Funnily enough feminists have slightly more to say negatively about the exploiter than the exploited.
