The programme is up on the website

filia.org.uk

14 - 15 October 2017 at the IOE.

OP posts:

My first thought was "Women or non-men?" but then I looked at the speakers on the website & there's a pretty impressive lineup.

Cordelia Fine, author of Delusions of Gender & Testosterone Rex
Julie Bindel
Clare Heuchan (@ClareShrugged)
FGM campaigner Nimco Ali
Beatrix Campbell
Karen Ingala Smith

It's £50 for one day & £80 for two, but it's tempting.

Ereshkigal · 26/09/2017 08:07

No gender identity stuff but some of the prostitution and porn stuff and Cordelia Fine looks likely to piss off the same people! It looks a really interesting programme. I get paid tomorrow so will see what the month ahead looks like but I'd like to go on the Saturday if poss.

Datun · 26/09/2017 09:51

Bumping

CancellyMcChequeface · 26/09/2017 10:18

I might go. I've never been to a feminist event before and it looks really interesting.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 26/09/2017 10:52

I've realised I can't do the Saturday but I think I'm still going to go on the Sunday.

Branleuse · 26/09/2017 11:09

interesting. Thanks for the link

YetAnotherSpartacus · 26/09/2017 12:51

I was interested to see that the session on consciousness-raising was sold out already (the only one that was). It gave me goose-bumps because this is how feminism began. I was a decade or so late to experience the genesis of this, but what this shows me is that women are feeling silenced again and they know that the personal is political and they want safe spaces to explore that.

The conference looks fantastic, but I do rather suspect that it will be crashed by TRAs and sex industry supporters.

SerendipityFelix · 26/09/2017 20:42

I'm going on the Saturday, looking forward to it :)

I went to Women of the World festival earlier in the year, which was lovely, but yes very liberal-inclusive-"nicey-choicey".

brasty · 28/09/2017 17:40

I am going. They don't touch the trans stuff, but they do have some good speakers. Particularly want to hear Cordelia Fine speak. I suspect someone will ask her a trans question.

BorisTrumpsHair · 29/09/2017 12:50

ah I started another thread but here you all are!!

For those wavering about going, I went to this event in 2015 - my first ever formal feminist "thing" (though I've always been a feminist just not active in any way, or particularly enlightened).

I went on my own and it was amazing - so much on offer, great key note speakers, bit days chokka full of amazing women, ideas, experiences, inspiration etc. Seriously, do yourself a favour, get a ticket and go.

They didn't put it on last year so I'm extra excited about this one

BorisTrumpsHair · 29/09/2017 12:51

I do rather suspect that it will be crashed by TRAs and sex industry supporters.
There was none of that in 2015 - well that I noticed.

vaginafetishist · 29/09/2017 15:29

Sold!

brasty · 29/09/2017 16:25

No it will be fine I am sure. One event some sex industry supporters started handing out leaflets, and they were quickly dealt with. The conference is very professional.

CancellyMcChequeface · 29/09/2017 17:19

Just booked a ticket for the Sunday!

wrappedupinmyselflikeaspool · 29/09/2017 18:55

I went to this two years ago and it was absolutely brilliant! Planning to up again this year.

EBearhug · 30/09/2017 00:42

No, because I'm on-call, and Cordelia Fine will be there, so I shall just sulk instead about missing her.

BorisTrumpsHair · 01/10/2017 17:07

So excited about Cordelia Fine!

Xenophile · 01/10/2017 20:30

I'm going, can't wait! A whole weekend of spending time with wonderful women awaits me. I always come away from these things feeling so energised and positive and full of activism ideas.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 01/10/2017 21:45

I'm going on Sunday. International Activism, Sisters Doing It for Ourselves and Word After Word.

BorisTrumpsHair · 01/10/2017 22:46

How will we recognise each other? Is there a secret sign Smile

SerendipityFelix · 02/10/2017 08:46

Mumsnet scarves? Empty pom bear packet poking out of our back pockets? Lol feel like I'm showing my MN age Grin

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 02/10/2017 09:26

Anyone else want to share which sessions they're going to?

brasty · 02/10/2017 09:40

Why not ask organisers to put aside a room for a MN lunchtime meet up?

CancellyMcChequeface · 02/10/2017 16:01

Empress, I'm going on Sunday and I chose The Changing Face of Patriarchy, Teaching Equality and Sex Robots. So many great sessions to choose from, though!

BorisTrumpsHair · 02/10/2017 16:28

I will fashion a broach out of an empty Pom Bears packet.
