It's asking whether MTF have experienced people assuming that they are dumb post-transition.

I'm finding it fascinating reading, for various reasons including that it sort of confirms that "mansplaining" is a thing.

Also - as noted on the thread - the sheer volume of MTF who work in tech! I would love for someone without an agenda to do a proper study into this

Introduced me the idea of a 3 way relationship - a triad.. why do I have the sneaking suspicion that it'd be a man, a transwoman and a woman - and the woman still does all the wifework..

I'm not convinced it's because people think they're women. Several of them said they weren't properly out yet and didn't pass.

But it's certainly some kind of reluctance to engage.

I do think that seeing a man presenting as a woman is confusing to many people. Normal protocols fly out the window.

You're not sure how to act, or how to treat them. All the normal, social rules suddenly don't apply.

I've found it myself. There was one person who I honestly could not tell if they were male or female and I suddenly realised I had no idea how to treat them. It was a very lowering moment for someone who is gender critical, I can tell you.

Datun - I definitely think that there is something about people often being uncomfortable or unsure how to deal with someone who appears to be outside the norm (or, rather, their norm). I suspect people with facial tattoos or a mohawk have similar experiences, as well as people with obvious disabilities would report similar experiences of being patronised, ignored and assumed incompetence, for example.

"Cis privilege" is an interesting concept for that reason, to me at least. I hate the "oh you're so brave" fawning over MTT, but it does take a particular type of courage to be the 1%er

There is a conflict for me. I see many stories of, and actual comments by, transwomen who are aggressively confident about what they're saying and who they are.

I hear narrative after
narrative where they dominate their partners, friends and colleagues.

But I also hear narratives of how they are so badly reacted to. Idiots shouting at them in the street and calling them names, people averting their gaze, etc.

I don't know if it is a big pond, little pond type scenario. Where they can dominate the little pond, because they become a big fish in their immediate circle but out in the wider world where they are little fish, it's much harder and they suffer accordingly.

That doesn't actually surprise me. There's a correlation between people on the autism spectrum and transgenderism. And when you think of the numbers of men in tech who are austistic, well!
