Loving this in a faceplant kind of way...

Ralph was 12 and Jack about the same age.

Seems a bit pointless, it'll need to be completely rewritten. There's other adaptions they could do which deal with the no-adult scenario: michael grant's 'gone' series and charlie higson's 'enemy' are both excellent. The children (in the most part) do rather better in both than the little horrors in lotf! Its also a different dynamic having boys and girls deal with the situation.

What about the naval officer at the end? Is that going to be a female too? If so, it will be a bit odd as the whole point of the male naval officer arriving to return the boys to the violent patriarchal civilisation's war that caused the plane crash which left them on the island in the first place is to emphasise that the violence and savagery committed by the boys is simply a reflection of the violence and savagery in all men. It's the whole point of the book.

Rare overlap between feminism and US right wing conservatism:

What about the naval officer at the end

I'm sure it will be male. And no doubt the lead girl who will be just legal will have gratitude sex with him
