Police investigate online abuse against Mermaids charity

Did anyone see this in the Guardian yesterday?

www.theguardian.com/society/2017/aug/27/police-investigate-online-abuse-charity-transgender-children-mermaids?CMP=share_btn_tw

I was disappointed by The Guardian's shoddy journalism. Seems a bit of a non-story. Folks on Twitter are saying they've been blocked by Mermaids when they have never interacted with them. Is this some sort of backlash from Mermaids?

OP posts:
Missymoo100 · 29/08/2017 10:33

The twitter link makes a good point,
In addition to the sweets and puppies, you have glitter, rainbows, mermaids- it's like a marketing campaign aimed at young impressionable children.

JigglyTuff · 29/08/2017 10:35

Oh do they? So entirely invested in getting their message across and doesn't even want paying for it.

They are not an organisation that supports children - they have crossed the line into political lobbying

terrylene · 29/08/2017 10:36

Not to mention the glittery magnums

Datun · 29/08/2017 10:39

They make zero secret of the fact they are explicitly targeting vulnerable teens with no parental backing.

Who the hell do they think they are? What sort of vulnerable teens? They don't specify.

The very first bit of advice from detransitioners is to keep teens offline Keep them away from the transgender influence.

The OP's link says police are investigating the backlash against Mermaids. I sincerely hope they do. I sincerely hope they actually uncover why. But I'd be willing to bet that Mermaids will withdraw all and any complaints before they are compromised by any revelations.

Missymoo100 · 29/08/2017 10:48

And the poster who says young children aren't "stupid". They don't have the capacity to make such decisions. This is a plot to undermine parental authority by making out children can make these decisions. I suspect it is the extreme left trying to control our children to push an ideology.
I said in another post that George Soros has poured a huge amount of money into the trans activism movement . He is also funding many other left liberal movements. He finds black lives matter which say on their mission statement/principles- that they want to undermine the nuclear family, and support communal child rearing in "villages", there is lots of reference to transgender matters. The principles don't mention anything about protecting the rights of young black men or police treatment. This is political activisim because there is a plan in store for us.

Datun · 29/08/2017 11:01

Yes George Soros's name is cropping up more and more frequently.

And although the ideology seems to still be gaining traction, I am noticing far more people objecting. Maybe not at work, or too overtly. But btl comments are much more critical than they were even a year ago.

That ladies only swim session for example. I don't think it would have even made the news a year or two back. Just been quietly implemented.

People are beginning to understand the wider implications.

DJBaggySmalls · 29/08/2017 11:11

Transitioning is a right wing ideology. The left are happy to have gay kids, right wing people are not. They see it as deviant.

Liberals are not left wing or Socialist. They are soft Conservative.
Soros is not left wing or a Socialist, he is a billionaire who has wrecked the economy of several countries. Look at who was on the podium at the Womens March Washington.

SuburbanRhonda · 29/08/2017 11:19

That quote in the guardian article:

"I am the mother of a six-year-old female to male child and I often get those sorts of criticisms and it really hurts.”

Six years old?

Missymoo100 · 29/08/2017 11:27

DJ Baggysmalls
I don't think transitioning is right wing ideology but whatever your view on the politics, you have to ask why is he pouring funding into trans activism. I'm holding back on my full thoughts on the matter, but for anyone interested I thought I'd raise it so it can be looked into.

We are committed to disrupting the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement by supporting each other as extended families and “villages” that collectively care for one another, and especially “our” children to the degree that mothers, parents and children are comfortable.

Above is a principle from BLM, Doris funded note the line "our" children. I think there is an agenda to undermine parents

Missymoo100 · 29/08/2017 11:28

Doris funded note! Was sposed to say notice the line "our children"

Datun · 29/08/2017 11:29

Rebecca Stinson (pictured) who said "It’s concerning that people might be detracted from seeking support due to this abuse. We want to make sure those who need it have access to help.” is also the one who thinks women and girls are bigots for not wanting to share their toilets with men.

gendertrender.wordpress.com/?s=Rebecca+Stinson%2C&submit=Search

He suggested that women who feared him should be “Ejected from the loo” and forced to use a “gender bigot toilet”.

I saw this in the Guardian too and lost a little bit more hope for that journalistic establishment. It used to be my go-to newspaper, but in recent years seems to have thrown women under a bus in favour of identity politics any other group of men (trans-women, muslims, illegal immigrants etc.). Their refusal to open comments on many such articles just confirms they are not interested in debate, they are part of the silent oppressors themselves. Only it's worse, because they pretend otherwise. At least with Breitbart, they don't hide the misogyny.

DeltaG · 29/08/2017 11:41

Silent should be 'silencing'

Ereshkigal · 29/08/2017 11:53

They have a volunteer marketing manager who is really quite abusive to people on Twitter.

Yes.

Datun · 29/08/2017 11:55

Their refusal to open comments on many such articles just confirms they are not interested in debate,

Quite. I've yet to see much support from commenters on the MSM reporting of trans issues. Even people who don't know all the ins and outs just use common sense.

If comments are disabled you can bet your life it's because they are negative. It, quite shockingly, highlights the difference of opinion between the newspaper and its readers. And the fact that they don't care. Because they have their own agenda.

AssignedPerfectAtBirth · 29/08/2017 11:56

What's the twitter handle for the marketing manager?

The Guardian is a disgrace now.

MissyMoo Can you point me to the source of your quotes please? Would like to read more. George Soros has a lot to answer for I think.

And yes, at least Breitbart has a fairly transparent agenda..

AssignedPerfectAtBirth · 29/08/2017 11:58

The Guardian usually don't allow comments on transgender issues and if they do, the Mod team delete any gender crit comments v quickly. The DM usually moderates the comments trans pieces in advance. Funny that.

AssignedPerfectAtBirth · 29/08/2017 12:06

Just for a bit of balance:

(Guardian journo lurkers, please take note)

Ereshkigal · 29/08/2017 12:08

What's the twitter handle for the marketing manager?

@mimmymum

HandmaidsNightmare · 29/08/2017 12:09

How anyone can agree a 6 year old is trans is totally beyond me. I have EVERY sympathy with the parent of a child who is depressed, self-harms or is suicidal. It must be the toughest thing ever watching your child in pain. A parent will grasp at anything that seems to alleviate the suffering. That is exactly why we need organisations other than Mermaids and Gendered Intelligence advising parents, giving them OTHER options, sound advice. I've heard people say ”but what's the problem, it's just pronouns, let them experiment, it does no harm". But it does do harm. Even if a child isn't on puberty blockers or taking cross sex hormones yet, once pronouns and names have been changed with friends, family, school etc it is much more difficult for a child to objectively work out who they are. It can take years to unpick the damage. This is why organisations like Mermaids should not approach children without their parents' consent. But apparently saying this makes me transphobic and hateful and I should be blocked and reported to the police. I just don't get it. Where the hell are the journalists?

OP posts:
Backingvocals · 29/08/2017 12:09

That's a shocking piece assigned

Ereshkigal · 29/08/2017 12:12

And I was just about to post the FC piece too Smile

Ereshkigal · 29/08/2017 12:17

How do I, and most gender critical women, know all about the rape threats, violence and porn soaked fetishes of transactivists, but thousands of journalists, don't?

How have they remained in total ignorance? Because if they haven't, it means they are colluding in an agenda.

They are either woefully stupid, unforgivably ignorant or plain dangerous.

Absolutely agree.

AssignedPerfectAtBirth · 29/08/2017 12:27

Funnily enough, I am blocked from viewing that account, despite not ever having heard of it before. Why would that be I wonder?

About, that TERF list, I'd be interested in knowing its origin. The odd thing is that many of the accounts listed on it have few tweets or followers (someone has gone to the effort of documenting the # of tweets, followers and following of each of the accounts on the list). I did wonder what the point was, but perhaps Mermaids aim to attack gender critical users using this list. Certainly some GC twitter accounts have been banned by twitter recently and some TRAs are actively trying to get GC accounts banned and have been tweeting about their success.

Good job on shutting down free speech, Guardian

AssignedPerfectAtBirth · 29/08/2017 12:30

Sorry, meant to say thanks Ereshkigal, for posting the twitter handle. Since I am blocked from viewing that and the Mermaids account, even though I have never tweeted them, can you describe or post the abusive tweets
