Outrageous. I understand that for safety they need to search people, having been to football matches myself in the past and have had my bag searched etc.

Never have I ever been asked to lift up my top though. Surely if they really needed to do this (and I don't believe they did), it should have been done behind a screen for privacy and dignity. Not many women would be comfortable taking their top off in front of a bunch of strangers.

If you are prepared to throw away other people's human dignity in exchange for an (imagined) tiny bit of safety, you yourself deserve neither.

When women are treated as subhuman in the UK, the Islamic terrorist groups need not attack anymore, their work is done for them.

zippey · 21/08/2017 10:50

If men and boys were subject to similar treatment then I suppose it's ok. It's only bras and breasts.

However, it's terribly heavy handed to search people like this. Just vote with your feet and don't go to a match in that ground.

CatsAreAssholes · 21/08/2017 10:51

Not swearing doesn't mean you aren't talking bullshit.

And telling women who aren't comfortable stripping off to do so doesn't make you cool or clever it makes you a nob with an emotional iq of zero.

I'd suggest you consider your "privilege" if you honestly can't imagine why someone women aren't comfortable with being strip searched in front of men

Datun · 21/08/2017 10:51

I get stopped every single time I fly. My underwire triggers the alarm.

I have never, ever been asked to show anyone my bra.

DeleteOrDecay · 21/08/2017 10:51

Exactly vestal.

It's really bizarre that some people seem okay with this (not just on mn but on wider social media too). Despite there being many other more dignified ways of carrying out a search on a person.

Sadly it says a lot about how women's bodies are viewed in society.

It's only bras and breasts.

It is if you feel comfortable that way. But as from another thread running many women aren't comfortable being topless. And that's at a beach, I think most women wouldn't feel comfortable being topless in front of an audience of mostly men, many of whom will be drunk and in an environment that is prone to violence

Copperbeech33 · 21/08/2017 10:53

then they can get woman and a screen, can't they! job done!

what a huge storm in tea cup

CatsAreAssholes · 21/08/2017 10:54

Are you able to pull a screen out from behind your ear or something? Is it a magic trick?

DeleteOrDecay · 21/08/2017 10:56

Surely if this were really necessary we'd be seeing this practice being carried out at the bigger, premier league clubs?

Except they won't and don't because it's a clear violation of privacy and dignity and most premier league clubs have an image to uphold that does not involve the sexual harassment and humiliation of its fans.

I'd rather be searched than blown up but only behind a screen, they cannot expect you to take you top off or lift it up in front of other people.
i caused a row at the airport when I refused to take my cardigan off, I am not thin and was wearing a very skimpy vest top underneath and I refused to take it off in front of all the other passengers and expose everything. We had a right set to and I insisted it was done in private.
I'm 55 for Gods sake, I'm not taking clothes off in public.
Would they ask a muslim woman to do that, I think not.

AlternativeTentacle · 21/08/2017 10:58

I get stopped every single time I fly.

Me too, but it is the metal in my elbow that triggers it.

Theimpossiblegirl · 21/08/2017 11:00

Dh takes our teen Dds to football
matches at much bigger stadiums. If they were subjected to this they wouldn't be going. Absolutely humiliating and unnecessary.

Copperbeech33 · 21/08/2017 11:02

Are you able to pull a screen out from behind your ear or something? Is it a magic trick? it would be very quick and simple to set up, did anyone even ask for it?

Knottyash5 · 21/08/2017 11:03

that is a stupid thing to say, many women and children have carried out terrorist attacks, mostly I would think they have been forced or tricked, by men

Not one of the recent attacks in Europe have been carried out by a woman, let along by a child.

Datun · 21/08/2017 11:05

Good lord. We don't expect women to expose themselves when they go into shops, railway stations, theatres.

Tons of women have underwires.

It's simply not feasible.

Copperbeech33 · 21/08/2017 11:06

If you are interested, all the checks were done by women, and part of the complaint is that female stewards were also checking men.

The club has said there was a raised security level

terrylene · 21/08/2017 11:08

I can't see how any of the recent terror incidents could have been stopped by searching under women's tops Confused

GirlcalledJames · 21/08/2017 11:08

Children used in suicide atttacks are victims not perpetrators (and an adult is often holding the detonator).

DJBaggySmalls · 21/08/2017 11:10

Detection dogs are more efficient than strip searches.

Copperbeech33 · 21/08/2017 11:11

Not one of the recent attacks in Europe have been carried out by a woman, let along by a child and many many many violent crimes are carried out by women and children every day in Europe

Datun · 21/08/2017 11:11

Is that right DJBaggySmalls?

Quicker, too, I imagine. As they could sniff down the line of people queueing.

CatsAreAssholes · 21/08/2017 11:17

in front of men Hmm

many many violent crimes are carried out by women and children every day in Europe

Are you on glue?

AlternativeTentacle · 21/08/2017 11:19

many many many violent crimes are carried out by women and children every day in Europe

not just many, but many many many? wow, thats loads. lets just lock all women and children up just in case.

CancellyMcChequeface · 21/08/2017 11:24

I'm always surprised by the lack of empathy on threads like these. Posters saying 'well I don't mind lifting up my top/showing my bra, so it's no big deal.' If you personally don't mind, good for you, but that's not a good enough reason to say that authorities should be able to insist on it. For plenty of women it's an invasion of privacy and dignity, and these things matter.

CatsAreAssholes · 21/08/2017 11:27

I've just seen copper on another thread. It seems they like to be goady controversial.
