I don't normally contribute to these threads and it takes a fair amount to irk me. However today I received an email from JL promoting for the post holiday return to the office - only apparently this only applies to men as no Womenswear is featured nor linked to Hmm

OP posts:
NoLoveofMine · 20/08/2017 10:47

All the more ridiculous as their managing director is a woman!

Dina1234 · 20/08/2017 11:01

Or maybe they have seen a drop in men's office wear sales and are targeting that department specifically? Not everything is about you. Next thing you'll be critiquing them of 'mucriagressions' for failing to advertise women's products when they are having a sale on men's shoes.

highinthesky · 20/08/2017 11:04

Women tend not to require quite the same amount of prodding to go out and spend money on personal grooming, including clothing, as men. Special measures for special needs Grin

LIZS · 20/08/2017 11:04

Really Dina? HmmI doubt sales of white Converse have dipped! There are home office related lines featured too.

I got something from JL today, it features women's workwear, lunchboxes and garden furniture. Maybe they're targeted based on browsing history and past purchases?

LIZS · 20/08/2017 12:31

Interesting that they seem to target, but most recently I've been browsing ladies formalwear and last bought curtains from them online.

OP posts:
AlexanderHamilton · 20/08/2017 12:31

My email features women's day wear separates, Clinique & men's workwear.

AlexanderHamilton · 20/08/2017 12:32

It's titled your workwear workout & has smart women's separates.

LIZS · 20/08/2017 12:35

Sounds like we each have different ones!

Odfo dina. It always amazes me people come on a chat board to complain about people chatting. Tis bizarre.

legolammb · 20/08/2017 13:32

I've just got the email about women's workwear, as well as back to university stuff and Clinique. Guessing this reflects my browsing history of work dresses and office desks for the study and skincare products

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 20/08/2017 13:52

Odfo dina. It always amazes me people come on a chat board to complain about people chatting. Tis bizarre

Telling a poster "Odfo" is trying to shut someone up.

Dina wasn't complaining about people chatting - she was commenting on this being a potential non-issue- which it appears to be.

Dina1234 · 20/08/2017 14:28

What is odfo?

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 20/08/2017 14:31

"Oh do fuck off" or "Oh dear , fuck off"

Dina1234 · 20/08/2017 14:47

Oh, ok, I thought that that my comment was more on point than most of them, oh well.

QuentinSummers · 20/08/2017 17:58

No I'm objecting to this "Not everything is about you. Next thing you'll be critiquing them of 'mucriagressions' for failing to advertise women's products when they are having a sale on men's shoes."
It's very rude to imply the OP is self centred for starting a thread on a chat forum.
I'm not silencing anyone, but please do feel free to continue to misinterpret my posts lass.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 20/08/2017 18:06

I think you misinterpreted Dina's post. I didn't read it the way you did. I read it as why jump to the conclusion this is conspiracy against working women.

As it turned out Dina's interpretation of the motives behind the email would seem to be correct- targeted advertising based on past browsing/ purchasing.

LIZS · 20/08/2017 18:23

For the record in no way did I take the email personally, was just baffled as to why it seemed so male focussed as that neither reflects my browsing history nor did it seem a balanced interpretation of their own marketing subject.

OP posts:
BornAgainScorpion · 20/08/2017 18:27

Definite non issue and waste of a thread. Does everything offend you OP?

LIZS · 20/08/2017 18:37

See my post below, far from offended! Looks like it is the product of a dodgy marketing algorithm.

Batteriesallgone · 20/08/2017 18:40

I got furniture, women's workwear and university stuff.

I only buy kids stuff from JL - toys and clothes.

Maybe they've mistakenly got you down as a man on their systems OP.

SummerKelly · 20/08/2017 18:53

I haven't got anything at all. Maybe John Lewis considers I already spend enough money with them!

I do occasionally get targeted menswear promotions. I haven't bought menswear for at least 10 years.

Waitrose tried to tempt me with a cleaning products promotion recently, which was also off the mark.

ATailofTwoKitties · 21/08/2017 11:47

Oooh.

I've posted this before about targeted promotions, but what do you think this says about Sainsbury's assumptions on who does the family shopping?

'Personalised' email to DH from Sainsbury's online shopping:

'Geoff, feel as Good as you Look in Tu clothing!

5 ways to flatter your figure

Fit 'n' flare

This style of dress suits every body shape! The top half skims over your curves without clinging, while the gently gathered waist creates a gorgeous A-line silhouette that flatters your tummy and thighs....'

Well, almost every figure.

reallyanotherone · 21/08/2017 12:05

I do. Hate shopping and "personal grooming" with a passion. Have just started a new job and really cba to go out for workwear.

Dh, on the other hand, enjoys clothes shopping and has a job where he wears jeans and casual clothing.
