An excellent article on the problems inherent in gender self-identity and a petition to have the author silenced and reprimanded

I came across both this article by Kiri Trunks and the petition to silence her this morning on the Gender Critical subReddit and thought it was worth sharing both here.

I've flagged the petition and objected to it on the grounds that it misrepresents the content of the article and is an attempt to silence debate, and damage the author professionally and personally.

Hmm, I don't see why she should be removed as VP of the NUT, she is after all not writing in her capacity as VP of the NUT, but just as herself and her feelings and thoughts.

I'm glad the NUT as an organisation have released a clear statement from their members, although I'm not sure if it's their official position statement.

Guess we'll see what happens next.

That's such a typically dumb comment in the image. Kiri's article was mainly about women's rights and the clash of trans "rights" with them. She doesn't have to defer to transpeople on whether we're allowed to think something is a women's rights issue.

@JessicaEccles that's not an excellent joke, in fact it's not even a joke really at all. Don't you find "jokes" about the mass murder of thousands of people to be wrong?

No, not really. Not when there is an interesting parallel between the number of women sacrificed on the altar of gender, and the number of female deaths each year at the hands of men- considerably more than the number of trans deaths everyone is talking about.

Women are being erased and of black humour gets the point across, so be it.

Her article was pretty eloquent and logical unlike their reasons for the petition.

I notice only 156 people have signed the campaign, I wonder how many people have flagged it? I'm tempted to create 155 new email addresses - would they take it down if more people complained about it than supported it? (probably not, as we know from the removal of the campaign to ask the government to think a bit more deeply about legislating gender identity laws; 38 degrees is anti woman and pro trans being able to do whatever they want).

I have flagged the petition too, and have written to 38 degrees to say the article as neither 'transphobic' or 'inaccurate', and is a personal witch hunt, attempting to destroy someone's career. It was a very well reasoned and reasonable discussion of the potential impacts of gender ID reform on women, as a biological sex. These are legitimate and important issues to raise. If there is going to be a 'consultation' in the Autumn, then all sides need to be heard and all the issues discussed and debated. I too am sick of authoritarian policing of debate, and silencing of women.

I've flagged it. As a teacher, I'm truly terrified by the NUTs statement. I hope the NASUWT doesn't follow suit, although I suspect there will be something similar issued shortly.

I've flagged it. That article is about women's rights essentially, it talks about the impact trans rights have on women and the idea that these people want her to loose her position in the NUT for talking about women's rights is pretty sickening and scary. Its completely erasing women's opinion and women's voice, they do not matter one jot in this debate (of course we already knew that)

Just wrote to 38 Degrees, urging them to take it down. I am a teacher too, and an aunt to a young trans man, and the 'call-out' culture is doing so much damage here.

This is a very disturbing article. About the nature of how cults are run and how they recruit people.

I'm sceptical about all sorts of things, but so many assertions in this ring true.

I flagged this yesterday too. I am increasingly angry about the silencing of discussion in this area. Shutting down sensible debate with accusations of prejudice is not solving anything, it is, in fact making the problem worse as frustration breeds anger.

"We believe that trans women are women and trans men are men." - nut statement.

This always puzzles me as simply as part of basic communication of what you want to say, you must refer to a trans person as trans. So why can't they be trans people and own it proudly? Just as a woman can be proudly masculine and a man proudly feminine (although, that's the real issue).

This stuff make my brain hurt!

The lactavita (sp?) drag child was especially chilling. Excellent article datun. It's so true that being a teen is so normally tough, anyone a bit on the side lines will be easily swept up by trans activists. It's a shame as it seems so muddly now. I was blithely happily into boy stuff and dressing like a boy while still knowing I was a girl. Now I think I'd be both teased and worried and coaxed into something I'm not. Or feeling like I 'should' be something I was not.
