Apparently men who may abuse the new gender laws are mischief makers!

I'm very new to learning about feminism and have never posted on here before. I've learnt a great deal from all you lovely lot, stuff that has really opened my eyes, especially in regards to the proposed new law on choosing your own gender.

This morning I watched part of 'The Wright stuff' on channel 5, now at this point I will say that I'm not a regular viewer of this programme (I last watched it years ago) but it came on after the kids programmes and I saw that they were going to be discussing this issue so I made sure to watch it. It was shocking! Men who will abuse this law were called mischief makers, the majority of sympathy was for the trans community and their rights. Not much mention of women's rights. I was wishing so much that one of the mumsnetters who are so good at explaining and arguing the points against this law were going to be on the phone in but instead it was a Mum of a trans teenager and a transgender female! (Male to female, not sure if I've got the right term) And the 2 audience members who gave their view were trans also!

It was just awful and quite shocking, did anyone else see it? I'll try to find a link......

yeah.. boys will be boys huh - even when they say they're really girls.

Minimising or what...

scalliondays · 24/07/2017 13:40

Well that's that then. If a woman prisoner gets raped by a transwoman sharing her cell then she just needs to stop being hysterical and get over it - it's just a bit of mischief after all...

MrsEvedder · 24/07/2017 13:50

I can't find a link to it so that's not very helpful! If anyone else has one would be great please.

I know there's lots of threads about this already but thought the Wright Stuff deserved a special mention. Can't believe that there are people who really think like that, doesn't matter if a few women get raped or abused in what are meant to be safe spaces as long as the trans rights are ok.

Mischief makers?! The more than think of it the more angry I get!

There will always be 'mischief makers' with anything, and people who use laws in ways that were not intended.

That is why you need checks and balances and legal scrutiny, so that you do not leave the door wide open for them.

The gov seem intent on opening the double doors as wide as possible as virtue signalling is more important to them than any level of common sense.

WhereYouLeftIt · 24/07/2017 21:39

Yep, the media are intent on minimising and sweeping it under the carpet just as far as they can. Today's i newspaper afforded it a whole eighty words, at the bottom of page 9. A major law change is proposed that has implications for so may existing laws and it merits - eighty words. No details, no analysis.

They all must be either ignorant or not want to be seen as transphobic I suppose. I think what wound me up so much was the term 'mischief makers', men who want to abuse this law are not mischief makers ffs they're potential rapists, abusers and vouyeurs! Call them what they are not bloody mischief makers, it makes them sound as if what they could do is just a little bit cheeky or naughty.

They did mention a women who was in a womens prison who had been raped over 2000 times by a trans prisoner. I'm not sure where this was but they completely dismissed it as if it didn't matter.
