Anyone else love this show? What do feminists think?

Love the way it showed the women and children at the end.

Chilling domestic violence scenes that were terrifying but showed the multifaceted way women are trapped in and the risks they face in leaving violence partners.

I went out and read the book and loved the women coming together.

Brilliant actors - made me think that Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman are truly empowered as producers which i don't think would have been possible a generation ago.

What do others think?

I agree it most certainly wasn't "hot sex" but onscreen it had a sexual element that I can imagine would get people excited. Just like The Fall showed a murdered fantastising about his victims in such a way that people could perceive it as sexual. I just think there are other ways of presenting this material onscreen such that there is no sexual gratification angle.

Loved this show, the actors, music & location. It had the style of Hollywood movies & the story was beautiful. Hadn't read the book so I was stunned by the last episode. Also the portrayal of all these women with all their differences who silently came together to overcome a monster. It was spectacular!

Isn't that discomfort and pleasure/pain confusion important though? In fact he has effectively trained her to respond to aggression, even when she doesn't want to?

I finished this series today having not read nook. I had already worked the twist out ny ep3. However, it was only seeing these posts that the murderer's motivation was made clear. what an oversight then for the show.

I did like it, but umcomfotably (as intended) with that overarching doom. Although the DV/rape was hard going so enjoy not the best descriptor.
