Has anyone else seen this:

www.aljazeera.com/news/2017/03/chicago-sexual-assault-facebook-live-170321221930160.html

It's horrifying. That poor girl.

So much is wrong here; that it even happened, that no one reported it, that the people who watched it will have no action taken and that buzzfeed have named her!

BonjourMinou · 22/03/2017 10:18

Buzz feed have named her? I missed that.

Wtf is wrong with this world that people will quite happily sit and watch a young girl being hurt?

Lots of people are complaining about Buzzfeed for naming her. Not that I want to be part of sharing her name around but if anything means wants to complain the link to their article is www.buzzfeed.com/amphtml/tamerragriffin/a-15-year-old-girl-was-allegedly-gang-raped-on-a-facebook if you want to include it.

It's disgusting but I'm not surprised. People are a bunch of cunts.

I hope she has lots of support, it's so horrible. Beyond words really.

Footle · 22/03/2017 13:40

I haven't looked at the link but why are you spreading it even further? Reported.

DoesAnyoneReadTheseThings · 22/03/2017 17:49

I explained why in the post Confused so it can be included in complaints to buzzfeed or anywhere else it can be complained about.

venusinscorpio · 22/03/2017 19:37

The utter, brazen contempt shown to women and girls at the moment is quite breathtaking.

Laurapalmer90 · 22/03/2017 20:06

This is really sick. That poor girl, she must have been terrified. The way that women and girls are being treated right now is disgusting.

It makes me so angry that the perpetrators will probably get away with this as well whereas this girl may be haunted for a long time. Once something like this is out on the internet, it's forever really isn't it? So even though it's been deleted from Facebook it might well be somewhere else and may be found in the future by employers for example.

CaoNiMartacus · 22/03/2017 20:36

This is awful.

This makes it no better or worse, but if I went onto any mainstream porn site right now, I could find no shortage of films of women being attacked, degraded, gang-raped. As a society it seems we've been anaesthetised to violence against women. Pornography has normalised (glorified, commodified) the wholesale abuse of the female sex.

I have no idea what the answer is.

KindDogsTail · 23/03/2017 17:58

Jeffrey Urdangen, a professor at Northwestern University's law school and the director of the school's Center for Criminal Defense, told the AP news agency it is not illegal to watch such a video or to not report it to the police. He also said child pornography charges would not apply unless viewers were downloading the video

This case is horrible. Poor little girl.
Does anyone know if there is a link on Facebook to report to the police from, or how someone would report something like that to the police?
What if someone saw it in the UK for example, rather than where the assault was taking place?

It seems the law has not caught up.

BonjourMinou · 25/03/2017 19:40

I agree, that was a worrying paragraph. It occurred to me that fb live is ripe for abuse if no one can be charged unless they download.

Can you fb live into secret groups only?

OP posts:
Ollivander84 · 25/03/2017 19:43

You can FB live in a group or on your profile
I think people have become very detached and almost don't see it as real life?

BonjourMinou · 25/03/2017 19:54

Yes, maybe movies have desensitised people to violence?
I don't see how. If I'd seen it I would have been horrified and at a minimum reporting to Facebook.

If you can fb live to a secret group it seems like a loophole for paedos.
