In all the talk about trans and kids, there seems to be a real disconnect between the use of puberty blockers and the reality of what turns children into adults. It isn't the passage of time. A thirteen year old who lives for a further five years doesn't magically turn into an adult. Puberty is what turns children into adults.

By giving puberty blockers, you stop the essential development that allows a child to gain the insight and maturity that means they can consent to medical intervention. No wonder 100% of those who take puberty blockers go on to hormone therapy. Their minds haven't been allowed to 'change'.

It's absolutely scary. There's no longer term studies on these drugs, and people are advocating that children take them, do people not see how genuinely fucked up that is?

It's a huge money earner for the pharmaceutical/medical industry. Are you surprised Northetn America is pushing this ideology.

Some years ago there was uproar because a couple had wanted to put their child on puberty blockers to make it easier to care for her. The child was severely disabled and they were starting to find it difficult to lift her. People were in uproar, saying it was un natural to prevent puberty and the potential risks to her health were unknown. The couple ended up going to court, but I can't remember the outcome, sorry, I'll try to find it.

Yet now it's being lauded as perfectly normal, because a child expresses a desire, notion, to be the opposite 'gender'. Not going to say sex, because that's not possible. The world is truely fucked up.

This is an example of what some parents have to do, in order to look after their severely disabled children. I'm not advocating do this to all disabled children, bty, just pointing out the uproar caused by their decisions, as opposed to the acceptance, or you're a bigot , by society of the mutilation of our young people, because they're feeling apart from society and think attempting to change their sex will help them fit in. It's so sad.

I remember that case, it was a really difficult one. And yes, the lack of outrage now is bizarre.

The general lack of knowledge about these drugs is scary, but it was the thought that without puberty, 18 is just an arbitrary age. What do they think has changed in these children that they think they have capacity to make these decisions once they get to 18? They haven't be able to 'grow up'.

I have a 13yr old niece how now wants to be a boy. This has been totally accepted, to the point that she is now known by a boy's name. The family are extremely homophobic which is particularly sad as my late husband and I strongly suspect the oldest child is gay, but unable to admit it. Yet, they're all so accepting of their little girl trying to become a boy.

It's a dystopian nightmare isn't it?

Poverty, I find the whole trans movement deeply homophobic. Lesbians are becoming men and feminine men become women, then you have the late transitioners who often have a sexual fetish.

Unbelievable when you think about it. A cognitively disabled young woman who was never going to be emotionally and intellectually able to bear children was still considered to have the right to go through puberty yet these children who cannot possibly understand what they are giving up are waved onto blockers without a backwards glance.
I truly hope the lawsuits are plentiful and painful. We won't see them for 15-20 years though.

I actually do think it is time and experience more than anything else that turns children into adults. There are people who went through puberty with all the normal misbehavour and are still immature and stupid.

What I am more concerned about are the health problems. Those puberty blockers, from all I have heard, do have rather severe side effects, what with preventing the changes that would naturally occur. They don't just freeze children in time.
(And of course, the fact that such medical intervention has taken place almost always means the child will take hormones - once medication has been taken, it becomes increasingly harder to declare the gender confusion just a phase and move past it. If one has already made sacrifices for some belief, it is harder to let go of that belief.)

The nitty gritty of the puberty blockers hormone treatments etc is rarely discussed in msm. Most people are clueless of the consequences. I too think that their will be huge lawsuits in ten to fifteen years, and everyone will act so surprised, except us 'terfs' (and don't give a shit if I'm called that anyway, been called worse).

I saw some research showing that lesbians typically come to terms with their sexuality when they are 20 (17 for gay boys). It's tragic that these children are damaging their bodies and this is being hailed as progressive.

I don't mean children have to go through a phase of typical teen behaviour in order to learn how to be a grown up, I mean the actual, physical changes to the brain that happen during puberty.

There's a reason teenagers suddenly feel they know everything, it's because they're experiencing their brain opening up, whole new cognitive processes and abilities. Puberty blockers must interfere with that significantly.

Another issue with puberty blockers is that the individual will never produce viable/eggs sperm. This means that unlike with older transitioners there will be no opportunity to harvest, allowing them the possibility to have a child later on.

How on earth can a prepubescent child be judge competent to make such a decision about their future fertility.
