Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

The use of cis gender

I've read the trans threads and they've definitely been an eye opener! I would say I'm definitely Spartacus!

Can someone enlighten me on the whole cis thing? When did it start becoming prevalent and who was the driving force behind it? The phrase cis woman is something I find quite disturbing- I am a woman plain and simple- not something which needs a quantifier.

Sorry if this is really basic stuff but am intrigued as to how this sort of terminology has become a "thing" and how it's becoming ok for men to define/ explain to women what it means to be a woman?

Genuinely confused and shocked about the whole thing.

Thank you. That means a lot to me

I have no problem accepting you, ripples.

It's what makes it hard about the whole TRA agenda. I have no problem with accepting someone with your outlook as a woman, sharing space with you etc etc. But as soon as the "a trans woman is a woman....period!" and "a woman is anyone who identifies as a woman" starts I feel it forces me to take a position and my position is on the side of biology.
Transwomen like yourself are collateral damage and that makes me cross because the TRAS should be representing your interests.

'An honest transwoman'

There's your blog right there ripples.

I, for one, would support it wholeheartedly.

Great posts ripples. You've really made me think.

WelshMoth · 24/12/2016 07:51

Beautiful, honest and gracefully written, Ripples. I support you.

Yes, Devi, that's my thinking too. If women are losing rights I stand for women - and therefore inevitably against trans activism. People like Ripples may get caught in the crossfire, though I would say that this is not women's fault. It's the trans activists who are creating the conflict.

venusinscorpio · 24/12/2016 20:50

Totally agree with you Prawn. That is exactly how I feel.
