Billy Cosby is seeking a plea bargain to avoid trial

Are we allowed to discuss this? The trial hasn't started yet, so I don't see why not?

Anyway, apparently he is trying to get a plea bargain rather than a full trial.

Also, he's apparently blind now too, which changes how he can be prosecuted I think?

I doubt it changes what he is accused of doing, or what he's admitted to having done in the past.

As I understand it, plea bargaining is just part of the legal shenanigans in the US legal system if you can afford a legal team to do it.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 12/12/2016 13:03

I'm British. Bill Cosby will be tried in another country, one with very different rules. Not my circus, not my monkeys.

Floggingmolly · 12/12/2016 13:06

Why does being blind change how he's prosecuted? (genuine question)

I presume that he won't be able to do a proper trial if he's blind?

And if he's sentenced to prison, he obviously can't go to a mainstream one.

I can't see why being blind has any bearing on either his trial or punishment I'm sure he's not the first blind person to go to jail

feminazi · 13/12/2016 13:18

He can't go to a mainstream jail though surely?

Why not? Deaf people do

and sorry about the overuse of the word legal

feminazi · 13/12/2016 13:47

Don't get me wrong, I don't give a fudge what happens to him, but I think his medical conditions will stop him from getting time. The worst he will get is a prison hospital place.

Yes, plea bargaining is normal in the American system.

It's a procedural hearing about whether to allow testimony of other women who say they were sexually assaulted by BC. As I understand it, because he is now blind, BC would not be able to identify the women in court. His lawyers are trying to argue that this is not fair and therefore the women should not be allowed to testify.

aginghippy · 13/12/2016 13:54

I think his medical conditions will stop him from getting time.

I think his expensive team of lawyers will stop him from getting time.

Redglitter · 13/12/2016 16:15

According to good old Google and blind people do just go into mainstream prisons. They get extra help where available and where it's not they just have to stay in their cell.

Like a pp I think his very expensive legal team will be more successful in keeping him out of jail than his blindness will

Xenophile · 13/12/2016 16:29

I think his expensive team of lawyers will stop him from getting time.

Yup

Floggingmolly · 13/12/2016 17:28

So by that reasoning, if you're assaulted by a blind man there's fuck all you can do about it, as the fact that he couldn't identify you in court precludes him going on trial?? What am I missing?
Or is it the usual; one law for the rich?

70sDinnerPartyClassic · 13/12/2016 22:01

He can't identify them? Isn't it them who need to identify him?

What am I missing?!
