I'm 2/3 of the way through Episode 1 of The Crown. But I am a bit disturbed by the fact that I thought this was a show about the Queen's reign and yet, as far as I can tell, the focus has been entirely on the men in her life so far.... Please tell me they're just setting the scene and that she's going to take centre stage shortly. I'd like to watch this show but it will irritate me too much if she doesn't seem to actually APPEAR.

Certainly, it's failed the Bechdel test so far.

Watch the rest. Much of the focus is on how she was essentially bullied and patronized by the men around her and how she gradually found her own voice.

I don't have netflix but I saw the strapline was something like loving wife, devoted mother, reluctant ruler, and I got a bit ragey. As the Queen is sure as shit a devoted ruler.

I am much further now. Honestly though, is supposed to be fictionalised so why can't they make up stuff that we don't know about? For example, does she really not have any female friends? Where are her ladies in waiting and female relatives?! I am finding it very annoying. Be it feels like a story about prince Philip more than the queen.

in Aus and have only seen trailers for it. but what you are all saying does make it sound worthwhile. im hoping it comes here soon. but do let us know how the story line develops and what she becomes. on a personal level i think she does an amazing job for someone born into a lifelong role.

I love it. I love the drama and the costumes.

I love the handwringing about the impending loss of 'the empire' and the complete, blind arrogance and colonialism that I imagine must be at least a little bit close to the truth.

I'm a few episodes in, and you're right that much of the focus is on the men. I'm hoping it improves. Right now it appears that every time she stands up to the PM etc. it's because Prince Philip told her to.
