Is anyone else reading all about what an amazing guy Alan Hawe was with mounting disbelief and fury?

He stabbed his wife and three sons to death in a frenzied attack and then hung himself.

But poor him, he must have bern awful tortured. And he went to mass all the time.

Great Dad

You know when you read awful threads about abuse on MN and then out it comes "he's a great Dad", and you think "what does a man have to do to losr that label?"

Well apparently you can murder your 3 kids and still keep the Great Dad title. Angry

So that could indicate that Clodagh was protecting the wee one. Who then could have fought back. Sad

MrsTerryPratchett · 06/09/2016 16:20

Defensive wounds on a 6 year old? There aren't words.

MaudGonneMad · 06/09/2016 16:23

No, he murdered his wife first. She was found downstairs. All the children were murdered in their beds upstairs.

Elendon · 06/09/2016 16:34

Ok. Thanks for the clarification Maud.

7Days · 06/09/2016 16:38

fuck. Doesn't bear thinking about

BlueLeopard · 06/09/2016 17:12

I read in another article that Clodagh had severe defensive injuries - she was the first to die. He used the axe on her. The youngest was killed last, and all boys had defensive injuries.

They all fought for their lives.

A truly evil bastard.

Amandahugandkisses · 06/09/2016 17:18

Monster.

The manner in which he did it speaks volumes. A deeply personal murder. Maximum suffering.

hollyisalovelyname · 07/09/2016 18:10

If Clodagh was killed first she was spared the knowledge that he was also killing the boys (hopefully)
She may have thought he was only going to murder her.
It's just unreal.
To do that to your wife and your three beautiful boys.
How many would adore to have their lifestyle???
3 great, healthy boys, a lovely home, involvement in the community and good, pensionable jobs in a nice country not racked by drought, war or pestilence.
It must be so tough for Alan's family though.
I hope they will get the support they need.
No doubt Clodagh's family will be supported.

TulipsInAJug · 08/09/2016 09:55

The Belfast Telegraph had an article yesterday saying they received a 'phenomenal' response to Suzanne Breen's article, and that online the column got over 1 million hits.

Apparently they got lots of emails with people saying how sick they were reading about how great Alan Hawe was.

This is reassuring.

However it still beggars belief how much eulogising there was over his monster; and that that was the automatic, knee-jerk response, instead of the horror and disgust that should have been. :(

xexxsy · 08/09/2016 17:16

This savage violent murder of Clodagh and the boys by the husband/father will be gone from the news imminently, I think it's actually gone already.

No discussion, no analysis (well very little), since the media are muzzled/biased, or so it seems to me. Breen and one or two others are the exception. Fair play to the BelTel.

Only hope is that the inquest may shine some more light on what happened.

powershowerforanhour · 08/09/2016 17:28

Yep and I hope the inquest findings get decent cover not buried in a couple of paragraphs on page 24.

Yet another news story based on her being his wife. They were described by the neighbours as being loving. At least she is named. Karen Arnold.

If this is love, then count me out.

scallopsrgreat · 09/09/2016 09:44

Another "tragic" event . Another "perfect couple".

No, another violent horrific event with another terrified woman dead at the hands of another abusive man.

It's not as if there aren't enough of these to join the dots. I'm pretty certain if there was any other trait other than the sex of the perpetrator e.g. race/religion/ginger hair then the dots would be joined.

Xenophile · 09/09/2016 10:19

We're not allowed to point to male violence though. Not without a NAMALT rider.

The thing is, that if men need the NAMALT rider, then even they obviously believe that men are violent, except them of course.

Felascloak · 09/09/2016 12:32

At least it's clear throughout that he murdered her, none of this "found dead" bollocks

scallopsrgreat · 09/09/2016 13:19

And there was a piece almost entirely about how she was a lovely person. Which is a definite improvement over the treatment Clodagh has received.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 09/09/2016 13:50

its so depressing to constantly hear the question what made him do what he did

nothing made him do it, he made a choice to murder his wife Clodagh and his children, Liam, Niall and Ryan

Its a step forward that it has been widely questioned how his actions have been reported but its not enough. The media have to report such incidents differently, tragically it wont be the last and they need to tell the truth not make a story of what might have happened
