I'm fed up with being told hairy is bad.

So after another day of heat where I can't wear shorts because of my leg hair I just wanted to see if anyone else was either fed up with being told that "no hair is beautiful" or ashamed to go out with hairy legs because they feel it's disgusting? I'm so effing hot I just want to be able to be hairy and not be judged!!!!! I can't shave because it brings me out in a bloody rash instantly and only lasts a day, so I wax. That lasts a week max. I wish I could just be a hairy lady and not care but I do care. Didn't know where to post so sorry if this is wrong for feminist chat.

I will be honest and say I haven't braved the gym or park with unshaven legs. I spent most of my 20s removing arm hair as well - I have a lot of it and it's very dark against olive skin - and now I wish I hadn't done that. I don't do it any more but I still look at it and find it odd, because I got so used to shaving it.

I did have a boyfriend who shaved everything obsessively, if he found a dot of hair about to come through on his leg he would want to tackle it immediately. I didn't mind that that was his preference but I wonder now, 20 years later, if he is still driving himself crazy over it. Sometimes goes with bodybuilding etc so I imagine he is. But I am just so sick of it. Also eyebrows - I have a monobrow and I wish I was I brave enough to leave it.

Don't get me started on the anti-pube thing.

OP, that is nothing compared to my legs - and I put on my swimming costume, go to the beach, go to the hotel next door to swim and no-one (apart from DP) has even raised an eyebrow.

DP would like me to shave. DP doesn't have a bald patch on his body apart from his forehead (only slightly exaggerating). I have told him that I will go back to shaving if he can follow my old regime for just a month - ie, because my hair grows fast, shave entire leg and underarm every day. I won't hassle him on bikini line even. Guess how long it's been since I've shaved? 6 years.

DP can't care that much - he's not even shaved once, let alone tried for a month, and no-one else cares..

DP has never called me disgusting BTW - he may not like my body hair, but he draws the line way before calling me disgusting because of it.

I can't say I have ever really noticed how hairy a another woman's legs are and even if I did notice I certainly wouldn't think anything! I shave my legs in the summer when I can be arsed but I only do it quickly in the shower so my legs are usually patchy at best and I wear shorts when I want. Your husband is an arse. If my DH ever said anything I'd refuse to shave them again on principle until he removed all his body hair Grin

I shave my legs if I can be bothered which isn't often. I run in short shorts. I have very pale legs. I don't care if other people think I should be tanned and hairless - I have nice legs and feel more comfortable in shorts than in running leggings.

Today after parkrun I went out for breakfast with my friends. In shorts. With hairy pale legs. Didn't put anyone off their food ;)

Posting in solidarity, I wear shorts and summer dresses. I have the triple whammy of social faux pas- fat, pale and hairy! Mostly can't be arsed at all have shaved once to the knees just before went on holiday. I wouldn't get hot and bothered! Go for it!

I'vè switched to an electric razor, using the standard wet ones even with foam/gel oil always ends up with ingrowing hairs and itching a few days later!
Might not cut so close but at least my skin thanks me for it.
Still only shave once a fortnight or so, I did try and grow it hoping the bottom half of my legs would match the top where I never shave, it didn't. I.guess that's the price I pay for having thick dark hair on my head, it's the same elsewhere 😕

Just flipping wear the shorts, people don't need to be staring at your legs anyway so serves them right if they do. I've been out today in cropped leggings with about 1/2 cm pit and leg hair because I cba.
I'm trying to psych myself up to go grey. It's hard!

Oh, btw when I do shave I use a Wilkinson sword with the guard wires as everything else gives me a horrid rash so might be worth a try?

I hate this!!!!
I shave when I want to shave not when I'm told I need to because my legs are hairy.

I mean I'm not being funny but if we weren't meant to have hair we wouldn't of been fucking born with it!! Hmm

My argument with my boyfriend is if your not gonna shave then why the hell should I woman or not hahaha I really don't care

I hate it too. And people say 'oh, I shave my legs because I prefer it'. Well maybe but wouldn't it be fantastic to see women with hairy legs occasionally and feel that it's an optional thing? I even feel self-conscious after I've shaved about the tiny black hair dots which no one else seems to have! Can some of you who don't bother move to London?

I don't give a shit what people think anymore.

If they don't like my hairy legs, then they are perfectly entitled to stop looking at them.

Thankfully, I am now over 40, so have become almost completely invisible, except to fuckheads who seem to think that telling me that I'm fat will come as news to me.

Firstly thanks for linking the hairy leg club. I love it.
This post has really made me think, I've been leaving my bikini after years of going full Hollywood since my early twenties. I started to really question why I was doing it. I hadn't thought about legs tbh but now I am thinking about why society expects it and why I conform.
Your legs look fine no one will notice.
