Looking for a movie to watch tonight and come across 'The Love Letter' a 1999 film.

Reading the description, it says "Steel Magnolias goes to the seaside for this appealing cast chick flick. Starring Kate Capshaw - Mrs Steven Speilberg to you"

FFS Sky could you possibly mention a critically acclaimed female who's starred in nearly 30 movies and also produced, without referencing who she is married to.

Am I over reacting by being pissed off about this?

I go to the cinema on average every couple of weeks. I could not tell you a thing about her.

A quick check on INMD shows her last 2 films were made for TV movies in 2001 and 2002. She's been in 28 movies, of which a significant number were TV movies. She has produced 1. The Love Letter. It had 1 nomination for an award-The Stinkers Bad Movie Awards for worst supporting actress , Ellen DeGeneres.

"Critically acclaimed" is not how I would describe her. The fact she is married to Spielberg may well be the only reason to watch this film.

I suspect you already know the answer to your somewhat rhetorical question, this being FWR. Of course no-one is going to say you are over-reacting. If you asked it on a film critics website, the answer might be different.

Yeah I can't raise much ire on this. Her husband is massively more famous than her.

Lass I did a quick google before posting (wondering if I could put 'award winning' but you're right, nothing for her) and Her movies have mostly had good reviews (and she was fab in Inidiana Jones ). Even if she was a crap actress, she is an actress in her own right and who she is married to is completely irrelevant. I'd be pretty pissed off if, in my profession, I was described as "that's Mr Pinky's wife to you"

I think what ticks me off is the description of it as a 'chick flick'. Especially with the negative connotations that descriptor has.

Although perhaps I've missed films like Saving Private Ryan being described as a 'dick flick' and am therefore being unfair.

Either the film sounds interesting, or it doesn't.

I might boycott films if the main actor is married to a particularly vile person, but I would never watch a film because the main actor is married to anyone- except, that is, if he was married to me.

Fine. I was trying to find some saving grace for what seems to be a film lacking in any merit.

The fact she is connected closely to one of the most successful directors ever seems a valid reason.

For film buffs the fact she is married to Spielberg and made this film after she married him is of interest to identify if there are any Spielberg like tropes.
