Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Which of these to read first?

Thanks to this board and the genuinely fascinating discussions on it of late on the subject gender/transgender, I'm beginning to explore feminism properly.

Apart from some great blogs and posts I've been reading, I bought "Wifework", "Living dolls", and "The Equality Illusion". (Any excuse for book buying.)

Any recommendations as to which to read first?

They are all good! I'm going to say The Equality Illusion.

Living dolls was great. I've recommended it to loads of people.

Also Caitlin Moran's How To Be A Woman. Several people I know loathe it but I liked it a lot.

Female Chauvinist Pigs was also good I think, read that a while ago.

I love wifework

It's quite a quick read too

Three books, three posts, three opinions? What kind of hive mind do you call this?

I'm on page 4 of wife work.....apparently men get a lot more out of a marriage than a woman does.....we should start a book club all read the same book and discuss it after and during...I'm game

Ha! Herding cats Detestable!

Thanks all for making me want to begin all three at onceConfused.

I think I'll plump for Wifework because DH just inadvertently pissed me off over a minor domestic issue and I feel like getting my righteous indignation on.

Ooh cross post Petal. It was your original thread that got me fired up in the first place!

There's a feminist book club board actually (think that's its name). If you want to start a thread I've no doubt I'll be moved to contribute judging by the reviews!

Wife work was done in FBC once upon a time! That is no reason not to do it again though!

DetestableHerytike · 29/06/2016 22:02

Ooh, so was Equality Illusion and the author posted!

Also read Delusions of Gender. I've studied feminism at degree level since reading it and still think that's one of the best books out there on this area.

I'd like to recommend Susan Brownmiller's book "In Our Time" which is a great memoir about the second wave of feminism in the US, which she was in the thick of it.
