Wedding cars

You wouldn't have thought a wedding car could be a feminist issue but I was having a trawl through some sites today and found a slightly eyebrow raising example of it going wrong.

Each car had its own name and description and underneath they had a picture gallery entitled 'For the Bride' and all the technical description of the car including engine size etc under the title 'For the Groom'

Will not be using this company. Grrrrr

What terrible marketing! I can't believe any company would be so stupid as to think that would win them business.

Maybe they just advertise according to experience.

"So bob, I've designed the website and according to your enquiries most grooms express an interest in the power and spec of the car. I've checked through the questions you usually get from the brides and they mainly surround style and colour"

I would be astonished if anyone cares about the specs of their wedding car, given its job is to drive two miles or so at a stately pace...

Who the hell cares how many mpg a flaming wedding car does, or how fast it gets from 0-60 ?

Maybe it's the company trying to get the average "aint bovvered" room involved?

So much of weddings is aimed directly at the bride, colours, flower, halls, dresses, yadda yadda yadda. I often think the groom is kind of secondary and almost unnecessary. (Obviously not all brides & grooms are the same)
So maybe the company is playing on the usual stereotypes that men like cars and want to know it's 0-60 and the crap Top Gear witter about.

Though why they can't just list them as something like "cosmetics" and "specs" is beyond me.

I think everyone is taking this far too seriously. But what's really serious is the underlying assumption that sexist jokes are ever so cute and fun.

They think it'll be a laugh to present details about their fleet of cars for "girls" and "boys". As Flacidunicorn said, weddings are mostly planned with women in mind, and if the groom manages to make an appearance, he's done his duty. But here they're giving the men something to look at, as if they're equal partners; let's have adornment for the women and technology for the men! Oh this equality business is so delightful!

They're not necessarily bad people. As sexist actions go, this is small stuff.

Finally got the internet back to reply....TeiTetua, you are right in that it is a small example but to be honest, it made me laugh and I was in a slight disbelief when reading the website.

I personally think they should just label it 'The pictures / pretty bits' and 'The Technical Stuff' and leave it up to us to decide what's the best.

Are you prepared to link to the company?

Is there a risk to you - or to Mumsnet - in you doing this? The latter is a genuine question. I do not always recognise the risks in this type of thing.

Looking at the site i think they could easily jist remove the text "For the bride / for the groom" its totally unnecessary.
