Surprise surprise it's from the DailyMail!
Anybody else find this quite offensive?
So to not have an hour glass figure but abs is considered a "worrying trend"

The tone and style is very silly but the basic theme - pressure to conform to a certain body type- gets a regular airing on here although they are approaching it from a different angle.

An aside why do so many mumsnetters hate the Daily Mail but still manage to find articles in it which they find offensive ?

Meh. It's just standard "it doesn't really matter what kind of body you have, or aspire to, we'll find a way to make you feel bad about it" shite that the Fail does so regularly.

Equating hourglass with sexual and therefore good, abs with androgyny and therefore bad- confirms that judgment on woman by way of her body is by her level of perceived sexual attractiveness. Insidious message, just "arggghggg", that's my opinion.

I fear for the DM journos. Dunno how they sleep at night, what with finding everything that doesn't conform to their world view "worrying" "concerning" and- my personal favourite - "deeply disturbing". Seems like half their writers are deeply disturbed individuals - if you believe that they actually do care about the "worrying trends" they write about and don't just knock out a lazy column requiring no journalistic research- bish bash bosh job done where's my paycheque?

I note that an obvious famous woman with rock hard abs isn't mentioned in the article. I guess if you earn your living by being a national treasure who gained said abs training to won more gold medals for our glorious country then that's OK, if you earn your living being a hollywood actress then quite similar training to get the abs is not OK.

Also, ridiculous to think that Diaz and Paltrow just decided to "ditch their shapely middles" (who uses the adjective "shapely" now anyway apart from lechy old men?). What, did they start off with hourglass hips and breasts and just trade them in one day?

So, once again, a DM article becomes the subject of a MN thread.

And yet when a MN thread is mentioned in the DM, there is no end of bosom hoiking.

Double standard?

Worrying trend for the pervy old goats who want to ogle your womanly shapeliness and objectify you without the awakening of any discomfiting latent homosexual desire. Slender pert-bottomed boys indeed.

When will these silly gels ditch their silly body fad obsessions and go back to flaunting their curves like real women?
