Has banned the use of the word 'clitoris' at its feminist festival as it it trans exclusionary.

I hope it is boycotted by women. How DARE they tell us we cannot celebrate and talk about our female anatomy?

5 minutes later,,,,.i get it the penny drops. .not the article we are discussing but the warning before hand...shit that's bad

NeedACleverNN · 03/06/2016 21:51
Grin
Chickpeasandpakchoi · 03/06/2016 21:59

So we don't need a content warning for survivors of childhood abuse. Because who cares about them. But we MUST have a CW for trans ladies reading about children being abused as the mention of vaginas might hurt their feelings. Absolutely chilling.

It makes me furious, Chickpeas
Talking about female body parts is cissexist. Article about female trauma is cissexist.
Bollockssss

Petal40 · 03/06/2016 22:06

Is it possible most people will of read the article and not understood the warning, not noticed it or relised what it meant.....I needed it pointing out..

Chickpeasandpakchoi · 03/06/2016 22:06

And women are colluding in this dangerous hateful nonsense!

A lot of people just getting on with their life may not know all the different names/ terms/ of things that are a thing that they've never even heard of

DioneTheDiabolist · 03/06/2016 22:10

It's a queer feminist festival, not a radical feminist festival or a women only festival. It's just catering to its target group.

Petal40 · 03/06/2016 22:12

How can u have a queer feminist festival .....queer is male ,like gay

Snowshimmer · 03/06/2016 22:18

It doesn't matter what type of feminist festival it is, censoring the words clitoris and vulva is anti-feminist.

MrFMercury · 03/06/2016 22:19

Not all women, myself included, have periods but I don't feel excluded or treated as being less than when my friends discuss the topic.
My clit is as valid as part of my body as my lungs. I was born with it, it's not a political or gender related point I wanted to make so I went and got one.
I'm all for people expressing themselves how ever they see fit and don't persecute anyone for how they choose to identify but it seems like I'm now being told I can't identify as a woman with my woman bits without having labels thrown at me and being accused of being a bigot.
I read a lot of the threads here but still struggle to understand all points of view.

Chickpeasandpakchoi · 03/06/2016 22:23

I am afraid at how far this insanity might go. Ten years from now, will we just not be allowed to talk about women's bodies/issues at all? With no safe spaces for women left? Or will women wake up to what is going on before that?

A feminist festival where natural female anatomy is 'problematic'.

I just wrote several paragraphs on this, but fuck it. I really think we need separation of feminism and trans rights/issues. And I'm sorry - a person with a penis is a man. If that person then goes through the relevant procedures to become female, fine. If they can't afford it/are afraid of surgery, then I can sympathize - with him, but I go no further than that. You don't just pull a pair of M&S floral knickers over your balls and call yourself a woman. No.

Petal40 · 03/06/2016 22:31

Everyone going to that festival ,needs a tee shirt saying. PROUD OWNER OF A CLITORIS .....yay

WatchMeSoar · 03/06/2016 22:32

Women will only wake up to what is going on if they are aware of what is going on
IME there are very few places on the internet where this issue can be discussed without death or rape threats.

DioneTheDiabolist · 03/06/2016 22:33

Queer as in Gender Queer Petal.

Petal40 · 03/06/2016 22:35

Dione u lost me...

AuntDotsie · 03/06/2016 22:35

That website...sheesh.

Lady*Fest offers an opportunity to reclaim and occupy male-dominated spaces - both in theory and practice.

By not being able to name female body parts? Hmm

Oh, and they've introduced me to a new phobia - interphobia. Another one to add to the list there.

Chickpeasandpakchoi · 03/06/2016 22:35

LaBelle, I agree. I've unfollowed most feminist pages on FB now as their 'feminism' is not one I recognise. It's simpering and apologetic and afraid to offend and has nothing to do with empowering women and fighting the many battles we face.

I'd do it, but I can't afford a bodyguard.

I would not feel safe doing this. Rape threats are a real possibility.

grimbletart · 03/06/2016 22:38

When the Green Party refers to women as "not men" you know that the intellectually challenged have taken over the asylum.

NeedACleverNN · 03/06/2016 22:38

I'm with you on the gender queer petal Confused

Petal40 · 03/06/2016 22:38

virgin...why? Why would it make people angry

AuntDotsie · 03/06/2016 22:41

They call themselves queerfeminists - anyone know what one of those is?

Chickpeasandpakchoi · 03/06/2016 22:41

Because talking about female body parts is now tantamount to transphobia Petal.
