When will this stop?

The biggest crime Michelle Obama has done is being the First Lady. The flack she gets for her looks is immense while her educational achievements and other things that she does are ignored. Feminist who fight for change should fight against the image being portrayed. Am not even going to bring racism into this because with black women they are both intertwined.

In hindsight, what they are saying is for the First Lady to be great, she has to be sexual (media standard of what it means to be one ), being well educated is pointless and please don't be black woman because that won't make you classy. For goodness sake the woman carries her self with grace. She is astute. What more do people want?

I would understand if they wrote about her failures of things she didn't get right. For example never doing what she has promised the public.

I see all those things but it shouldn't be given any more importance than scrawlings on a bathroom wall or on a schoolbook. Even Trump wouldn't endorse such racism and misogyny because quite rightly he'd be utterly condemned.

Sixweekstowait · 17/05/2016 11:18

Of course Trump endorses misogyny and racism - he's a bloody role model for it.

ApocalypseSlough · 17/05/2016 11:20

I agree, but the crappy carton is just that. It's not official, it didn't come from his campaign it's worthless and should be ignored.

BarbarianMum · 17/05/2016 11:27

I think it's awful. And while this is just one minor cartoon, the attitudes it endorses are still common and pretty mainstream. And they should be challenged, not ignored, although I won't share this image (not criticising OP for posting it here though) further to do so.

VestalVirgin · 17/05/2016 11:31

I really don't know what disorder those people who make such cartoons are suffering from. There's this thing where you think you are ugly - how is it called when you think other people are ugly when in reality, they are not?

It would be an awful thing to do if Michelle Obama actually looked like this, but from what I remember (don't really see US politics in the news often) Ms Obama is quite conventionally pretty.

So what are they hoping to achieve by this?

And actually, who cares about the first lady? I don't care what the first lady looks like, or if there even is one. (And wouldn't care if I was an US citizen, either)

I'd like Hilary Clinton to win if she's the one to go against Trump. (As far as I'm informed they haven't this figured out yet?) Would give us a rather unattractive first gentleman, but I don't care.

How awful. I really like Michelle Obama, I'm not sure what the job description for First Lady entails but she seems to have done a pretty good job from what I've seen. Not sure what they can possibly have against her apart from she's not white.

ApocalypseSlough · 17/05/2016 12:21

This 24 hour click bait culture is going to lead to more and more instances of this.
So I could scribble some rubbishy picture suggesting insert random unfounded but damaging slur here I don't actually want to invent one, let's say for the purposes of clarity squirrels transmit Zika and post it here or on Fb or Twitter. Some bored or desperate hack shows it to a few people and asks for responses and voilà 'Squirrels- the deadly menace', 'Dogs killed as they eat poison' 'abortion figures soar due to Zika fears'
I don't know stupid can be controlled.

80Kgirl · 17/05/2016 12:28

I admire Michele Obama. I think she is both intelligent and gorgeous! She more than holds her own against Trumps latest wife.

But of course, the point is that it is crass and demeaning for both the women being compared!

The cartoon has racist overtones for me.

BarbarianMum · 17/05/2016 12:33
ricketytickety · 17/05/2016 12:36

Says much more about the artist, trump and whoever tweets it than it does about her or the other woman. That's the good thing about social media; the racist women haters slip up and reveal who they are for all to see.

ricketytickety · 17/05/2016 12:38

trump doesn't like anyone who isn't trump. He'll say anything for a vote and has no moral compass.

ricketytickety · 17/05/2016 12:43

Actually the contrast between the obamas and the trumps is humanist vs psycopathic individualist. If trump gets in America will have gone from one extreme to the other. Desperate voters will have made a huge mistake, because they think trump will get things done. In reality he just wants the power and prestige. And for everyone else to be put in their place racially and sexually.

MorrisZapp · 17/05/2016 12:44

If the artist had any talent at all he wouldn't need to write the women's names to help us understand who his pitiful drawings are meant to be of.

Why share this? It's just a piece of crap from the vast sewer that is the Internet.

Convoysandwich · 17/05/2016 12:44

I've heard nothing but good things about Michelle Obama; brains, personality, looks, dress sense. Vile cartoon but not representative. A pp is right that Cherie Blair/Booth seemed to get a lot more stick, particularly about her looks and dress sense which were both perfectly fine from what I could see.

AyeAmarok · 17/05/2016 16:07

That stupid cartoon is giving me the rage Angry

Michelle Obama has been a great First Lady and is extremely accomplished (read: 'Great').

That is just wrong on so many levels. Misogynistic, racist, sexist. Fucking awful.

I hope someone assassinates sorts Trump out if he gets anywhere near the Whitehouse.

oliviaclottedcream · 17/05/2016 16:08

What is racist about it? The very fact that Michelle is black? Cartoons are pretty savage and unflattering. take a look at how Cherie Blair, Hillary, Mrs W Bush and Thatcher were depicted. Michelle's the first lady so of course she's going to get some stick! A lot in fact – it comes with the territory. Are you saying she ought not to get the same treatment as all the others have because she's black?

This is aimed at the low brow element of the general public. I refuse to get upset or see it as inspired by a hatred of women. Its all part of the game. Its real crime is that it's Puerile and unfunny. But then I feel that way about cartoons in general...

I think there is a tradition of portraying black women as strong and therefore not feminine enough. Must have something to do with slavery and black women being put into a different category to white women, to justify making them do hard manual labor in the fields. Something like that.

However, I don't think it matters? It is certainly sexist, and very vile overall.

80Kgirl · 17/05/2016 17:12

I think you are spot on vestsl.

oliviaclottedcream · 17/05/2016 17:13

can you do so again because I've had my la la la filter thingy on?
