Sorry I can't link but it's on the BBC site.

OP posts:

Fuck.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 14/10/2016 14:51

Bloody hell.

SomeDyke · 14/10/2016 14:51

"I hope you're not implying Ched Evans is a rapist."
He's still scum, and I don't think womens opinion of him on that front has been improved by this retrial, reinforced if anything.

The law is an ass, and a misogynistic one at that.

11122aa · 14/10/2016 14:51

Also we need to be careful on here because we know a libel action could occur.

WomanWithAltitude · 14/10/2016 14:51

It just happened so depressingly frequently. The case where a man was acquitted after claiming he fell onto the victim and accidentally penetrative her also springs to mind.

It doesn't matter what shite a rapist's defence team concoct, there will always be rape-myth-addled jury members eager to lap it up.

I just hope his victim is well supported right now.

DeleteOrDecay · 14/10/2016 14:52

Jesus Christ, what a travesty.

MrsFionaCharming · 14/10/2016 14:52

I came on to say exactly that YNK :(

LouisvilleLlama · 14/10/2016 14:52

I before said on this or a similar thread that i don't know if he is a rapist and tried to have a balanced view that he may not be, but seriously if the new evidence was just she had sex with someone else drunk I think that's incredible and sad

femfortheday · 14/10/2016 14:53

I fucking give up on the criminal justice system.

MostlyHet · 14/10/2016 14:53

So basically, we are back to where the law was when I was a teenager in the 1980s - if you have ever had consensual sex with anyone, you can forget about making a complaint of rape (or indeed in this case, of having one made on your behalf) because to consent to sex once, with one individual, is to consent to sex with anyone, ever. Oh, and from what emerges in that Guardian article, it appears that the accused can bung witnesses a wodge of money to support his side of things and this is perfectly okay.

Bloody disgraceful

PinkissimoAndPearls · 14/10/2016 14:53

So what would the legal implications be if I were to post on here that I believe his own actions and admissions prove him guilty of rape?

GingerIvy · 14/10/2016 14:54

Oh god, the interviews and such. His smug face and that of his family, girlfriend, and so on. It'll be everywhere, how he was "vindicated"and she's trash.

I'm going to have to avoid the news for at least a week.

venusinscorpio · 14/10/2016 14:54

I expect there will be lots of ignorant threads in AIBU and chat soon about rape as there are plenty of misogynists both male and female here, and all the rape apologists will crawl out from under their rocks.

Redcrayons · 14/10/2016 14:54

So depressing.

WomanWithAltitude · 14/10/2016 14:55

Yes he's still scum, and he treated that poor girl appallingly. She has been a victim in this regardless of whether he and CM are rapists in the eyes of the law. She was victimised first when they treated her with such contempt, and secondly she has been victimised by our appalling justice system, having her private life dragged through court in such an unethical way.

JenLindleyShitMom · 14/10/2016 14:55

Sad I knew it would be a not guilty but this is just so gutting. It feels like a massive landmark. This changes so much for rape victims.

What can we do to change how this was allowed to happen?

LineyReborn · 14/10/2016 14:55

We are still allowed to say that we think Ched Evans is an immoral creature, I hope.

And that justice just saw a dark day.

And that if his brother were teaching my DD, I'd remove her from his vicinity asap.

venusinscorpio · 14/10/2016 14:56

Exactly Woman. "Beyond reasonable doubt" is interpreted as "beyond all possible doubt".

11122aa · 14/10/2016 14:56

PinkissimoAndPearls.
You would be liable to be sued defamation.

GingerIvy · 14/10/2016 14:56

I think we need to remember that "not guilty" means it wasn't proven (in the view of the jury anyway), it does not mean "innocent."

WomanWithAltitude · 14/10/2016 14:56

I don't actually think it changes much. It just makes women more aware of the contempt they are held in by our misogynist justice system.

Nothing about how rape cases are tried will change as a result of this. This happened using the same system we have had for years.

Dervel · 14/10/2016 14:56

Can it be appealed? Can a private crowd funded investigation search out grounds for appeal? Then if enough evidence comes to light it has to go foward?

Or how about a crowd funded civil case? When her name was leaked in violation of her right to privacy there is surely a case to answer there. I am sure there are things that could be done if enough people care to act?

SheilaTakeABow · 14/10/2016 14:56

Fucking hell. Is this literally what it's boiled down to? Consent to one man equals consent to all? Well, that's women fucking told isn't it? I genuinely feel quite shaken by this. Poor, poor girl

GingerIvy · 14/10/2016 14:57

Can it be appealed? Can a private crowd funded investigation search out grounds for appeal? Then if enough evidence comes to light it has to go foward?

Can the legal people on here advise on this?

FatimaLovesBread · 14/10/2016 14:58

I've been following this thread but not posting. Twitter is making me so mad though. So many people saying she should be jailed or be ashamed of herself for ruining his life. He did that himself by letting himself into a random selection room at 4am and doing what he did.
None of them seem to realise or want to hear that she didn't report him or make allegations of rape. She went to police over a stolen handbag, him implicated himself
