I get the impression that if women have a"girly voice" or don't portray an image of independence, power and assertiveness, then they are labelled as weak and whatever it may be that they're featured in is accused of being patronising, sexist and demeaning. But surely pigeonholing what a "string, positive woman" should be is damaging to the fight against sexism? Surely we should be embracing woman in all her forms and fighting for respect and acceptance of each and every one of us?

I of course meant to say, STRONG, positive woman!

Thecatswhiskers I'm so sorry you went through that, I went through an abusive relationship in my teens and also lost my virginity as a result of rape at the age of 14. Similarly - I was also thought if as a strong, vocal and extroverted girl/woman, as a result the shame I felt about both the rape and abusive relationship stopped me from speaking to anyone about it for decades, to be honest part of that was because I didn't want to be perceived as "weak".
