Transgender pupils allowed to chose uniform

So girls still have to wear skirts and boys still have to wear trousers. This is merely the reinforcing of gender stereotypes hidden under the banner of progressive open-mindedness. Why not allow pupils to pick which they'd rather, regardless of sex?

Uniform changes

Great news for the thousands of transgender pupils out there.Hmm

muddiboots · 21/01/2016 20:15

Yes absolutely re jackets cut etc, and they are very specific from certain makers so there's no fudging it.
Given the cost of one set of uniform, I think there will be very little swoppage going on from term to term !
The headmaster is absolutely a media hound but to be fair, this issue was suggested by the school gender club ( pupils ) and he is honestly committed to individual freedoms and rights.

muddiboots · 21/01/2016 20:17

Palmerviolet, things have moved on school wise locally, the college is outstanding in terms of results and there are really no better schools locally ( as far as I know )

Blu · 21/01/2016 20:53

OK, all credit to the school gender club, and for the school to listen. That is forward thinking.

But they still have a binary system....

And there is no option within the 'skirt uniform' for trousers.

CultureSucksDownWords · 21/01/2016 21:18

Wtf is a gender club?

LovelyFriend · 21/01/2016 21:23

Gosh I wonder how Lass's son feels about his Mum insisting he wears a skirt to school?

That really should be the individual students choice.

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 21/01/2016 21:35

Hmmm, I wonder if this gender club has been made to believe that gender = sex. Given the press release stated 'biological gender', they probably do Hmm

Muddy, really?

Lancing and Roedean have closed? How the hell did I miss that?

muddiboots · 21/01/2016 22:43

Pviolet, roedean is single sex and lancing does not have academic results to compare

muddiboots · 21/01/2016 22:54

Sorry to take off topic, just replying to palmerviolets slightly sarcastic comment, just checked league tables for GCSEs and a levels, telegraph and independent and Brighton is way ahead of both roedean and lancing ( in those lancing is on as do igces )

VashtaNerada · 21/01/2016 23:00

As others have said, this is confusing and oddly done. Surely the sensible thing is to have one long list (blazer, jumper, skirt, trousers etc) and pupils just mix and match? Can't believe this is even an issue.

PalmerViolet · 21/01/2016 23:13

Muddi, right o

PalmerViolet · 21/01/2016 23:14

And it wasn't slightly sarcastic, it was very sarcastic.

However, I apologise, I know how precious people get about the schools they're connected with.

muddiboots · 22/01/2016 08:07

I know pv, I was being sarcastic too 😄
Sarcasm and passive aggression now, I feel we could be great friends Grin
