PlaysWellWithOthers · 18/11/2015 07:46

I'm sure you'd look fab with the beard though. I know I do Grin

BertrandRussell · 18/11/2015 08:15

I made a tedious non funny post as well. Must be the dungarees.

LauraMipsum · 18/11/2015 12:10

I'm too liberal to be a rad fem, too radical to be a lib fem, too socialist to be an establishment feminist and too establishment to be a socialist.

I'm not sure that division lines among feminists are a great approach anyway.

Sorry to lack lightheartedness. I do make fantastic cunt cupcakes though.

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 18/11/2015 13:15

I'm a liberal feminist (not sure if I'm allowed here)

Love the cunt cupcakes - vajazzle if you must Grin

BertrandRussell · 18/11/2015 15:10

"I'm a liberal feminist (not sure if I'm allowed here)"

How do you define yourself?

MrsTerryPratchett · 18/11/2015 15:23

I'm funny. Everyone says so. Other people like my comments about Mao. Am. Am so funny.

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 18/11/2015 15:47

how do you define yourself

Hmm do I have to?

BertrandRussell · 18/11/2015 16:16

No of course you don't! I was just interested in how liberal feminists define themselves, that's all, and what they do/don't think that I, as a radical feminist, don't/do think...

PreemptiveSalvageEngineer · 18/11/2015 16:39

Well, I think you're funny, MrsTP.

And old. Xmas Grin How was your birthday?

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 18/11/2015 17:36

bertrand

Sorry, bit defensive there. I guess I would have two answers. The first would be that a don't really bother defining myself.
The second would be - if pushed on what does it mean for me to be a feminist, I would probably just say - equality.

MrsTerryPratchett · 18/11/2015 17:47

Cheers PSE it was good thanks. There was Cake so that's a win.

PreemptiveSalvageEngineer · 18/11/2015 18:09

Red vulvet cake?

MrsTerryPratchett · 18/11/2015 18:13

Goodness no. Choc-clit cake. Grin

BertrandRussell · 18/11/2015 18:39

"The second would be - if pushed on what does it mean for me to be a feminist, I would probably just say - equality."

So how do you know you're a liberal feminist? Because I could say the same (I wouldn't- because I never use one word where a paragraph would do) but I'm a radical feminist. You might be too........

TeiTetua · 18/11/2015 18:48

Maybe deviating from the light-hearted here, but for those who lean towards socialism, here's an illustration of it in action. I actually think it's funny as hell.
Radical feminists, every one of 'em.

PreemptiveSalvageEngineer · 18/11/2015 18:51

Arf, MrsTP!

See, we have almost asuch fun as gay men, with their fairy cajes, and their log rolls...

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 18/11/2015 19:04

I thought I was a radical feminist and that test confirmed it. Are there any cupcakes left?

VestalVirgin · 18/11/2015 19:17

@BertrandRussell: Wait, aren't radical feminists for liberation from oppression rather than equality?
I remember reading some piece about how being equal to men is no good because the patriarchal system is messed up, and doing the things men do (like working 12 hours a day, seven days a week) is not something women should aim to imitate.

Though I suppose one could say that radical feminists want to change the world for the better, and then want equality in that better world.

VestalVirgin · 18/11/2015 19:19

I was referring to paid work ... didn't want to imply that unpaid housework is not work. (Maybe I should have written "wage-slavery" ...)

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 18/11/2015 20:16

bertrand I did that test Seneca linked to

Highest was liberal feminist, second highest woman of colour. I can't quite remember but I think rad fem was 4th on the list.

squidzin · 18/11/2015 20:53

Lol @ TeiTetua.
Because North Korea is the perfect example of totalitarianist dictatorship and has nothing to do with socialism!

onahorsewithnoname · 18/11/2015 21:50

@VestalVirgin, I think I must have fallen for the current lack of value put on child rearing, which was women's work and and is now less than work.

I really think that we have lost something, a definite lack of respect for domestic skills, wife work has become a source of contempt.

We (I) felt it was beneath us and we wanted to do what the men were doing, and so often we are, but we are also doing the other stuff at the same time and it's not seen as having any worth.
I sat with a friend tonight whilst she cried, (she's on mat leave) three children under school age, and her husband feels that as he is working full time and getting up with the two older ones she should be doing more.

Unless she's earning hard cash what she does has no value.

This probably makes no sense.

ChunkyPickle · 18/11/2015 22:33

Oh god, 3 children under 5 - I'm physically hunched over the way that men do when you mention getting a blow to the penis..

This wifework thing as a source of contempt is hard, because, I just don't want to do it. I don't exactly think it's beneath me, I just really, really don't like it (my sister and her partner do, they are uber-neat the both of them). Yet someone has to.

My MIL comes over on Fridays, cleans the kitchen and does folding and ironing (I would never iron anything) - I've told her that as much as it's appreciated, she doesn't have to do this, and yet she does (she's lovely, it's not a controlling thing.. well.. it is a little bit, but only in an adorable, kindly meant way) - DP doesn't feel ashamed at all, but I run around like a headless chicken in the morning before work so she doesn't think we're complete slobs.

Mine makes no sense either, but what I want to say is, that after the recent salary thread, I'm even more wound up that no economic value is put on women staying at home (even though, if they did, then that value would almost certainly boost us up above men in the earning stakes - the nannying alone is more than the average salary, let alone the cleaning and PAing)

PepperThePrepper · 20/11/2015 18:37

I'm a radical Shock

I don't even know what that is!

VestalVirgin · 20/11/2015 19:14

Pepper: Congratulations!

How much did you score?
