hi , just signed up, gotta admit, I'm a little confused over feminism

like, what do women really want

and how can women be oppressed just for being women? that doesn't add up because my GF loves things that many fems rail against, yet says she's a fem herself

What do many feminists rail against?

southeastastra · 07/08/2015 21:41

you could start with equal pay

BertrandRussell · 07/08/2015 21:42

What is a fem and what do they rail against?

avocadotoast · 07/08/2015 21:44

like, what do women really want

Not to be spoken of in general terms and treated like individuals?

here's an example:

recently I went to a horse race ladies day with my GF - they had a 'best turned out lady' competition (just like they do with the horses)

she loved it, came in 3rd - and she says she's a fem - ok, fair enough

but when I told my more radical fem mate down the pub, she reckoned it was 'objectification of women' , so who was right, can't surely be both at the same time?

the gender gap - it that the thing that Julianne Moore complains about, like she only gets 98 million salary, compared to 100 million for the men? oh right, like I'll bear that in mind next time my giro comes in

OP posts:
CoteDAzur · 09/08/2015 20:31

Have you tried asking your girlfriend?

AuntieStella · 09/08/2015 20:32

"Giro" ????

Are you sure you're young? Because I doubt anyone under 50 would still talk of giros.

RoyRants · 09/08/2015 20:36

tbh, I don't sign on anyway, just picked that experession up from my dad, it's kind of tounge in cheek, like why worry about the massive salaries of female CEOs and movie stars

OP posts:
YonicScrewdriver · 09/08/2015 20:36

You again, Roy?

BertrandRussell · 09/08/2015 20:38

Giro?

Hands up everyone under 50 who knows what a giro is?

YonicScrewdriver · 09/08/2015 20:39

Wasn't it mentioned in Adrian mole, Bertrand?

SacredHeart · 09/08/2015 20:41

I would advise when you hear differing ideas from women to

A) check if they are menstruating (this can affect connection to the mothership)
B) request they refer to their hard copy of the feminist manual.

BoysiesBack · 09/08/2015 20:44

Try reading a book.

Can we worry about situations where a man and woman do exactly the same job to the same salary but the woman gets £80K while the man gets £100K?

What if the woman gets £20K and the man gets £25K?

At what level does a pay gap become acceptable?
