Kate Cross who is an England Cricket international is now playing for her local club where she started but she is playing in the first team. The first woman to break through into what was considered the Men's Team.

There was an issue as she is a paid international player but as she in paid by England she has been granted permission to play, the issue wasn't gender based but only 1 paid player is allowed in each team but as Heyward don't pay her she is breaking a major barrier.

Kate Cross is fab, she's done some coaching sessions that DD1 has been to. I know some of the players she's been up against recently and they highly rate her as a cricketer.
Most clubs in the Central Lancashire League (and elsewhere I assume) are trying to attract more girls into youth cricket so to have someone like her playing for Heywood is a great starting point for the coaches.

8-47 is brilliant no matter what genitals you have. Kate Cross is a great cricketer.

DS only heard the score last week not the details so his first reaction was massive sympathy for Unsworth's total collapse. Then he read the score sheet and just said 'not surprised, I've seen her bowl and Heywood is a good wicket for fast bowlers'. Not a word about her being female.
I left him to it before he bored me with the technicalities of bowling techniques again Grin

Thanks sausage.

Excellent news! Thanks sausage.

Idont I have an understanding of the difference between leg spin and off breaks.... something I had no idea I ever needed to know but the boys think differently. Nice that your DS recognised a good wicket is not reliant on gender.

Charlotte Edwards won female cricketer of the year tonight. I think that the cricket may have more of a break through over the summer, at least I hope so in terms of tv coverage as it will keep the boys quiet.

sausage you're kidding, the Ashes start in July!! A whole joyous summer of cricket matches, cricket post mortems and cricket news.

Yay.

I told DS2 about this and then had to explain the basic rules of cricket to him. Hmm Don't they teach them anything in school? Grin

Idont, there are days between matches just what will the boys do then? Of course we have 20/20 Friday and Saturday and DS1 plays on Sunday. The football season isn't even over and I am wondering which is worse for me. I would love to see more of Cross and Edwards and co on TV though other than the 30 minutes on Tuesdays on Sportswomen. Been trying to follow the rugby sevens because of qualification for Rio but in a sports mad house I seem to come last
