here

Thought people might be interested in this. I knew it went on but was surprised and shocked at the list of places and situations where it happens.

The question that came to my mind when reading the explanation as to why it is so important that army recruits are virgins, was, how are they testing the men????

(You don't really need to answer that!)

It's really shocking isn't it. The idea that you might need t be submitted to violation for no reason whatsoever in order to graduate from high school, or do a job, I mean, it's mind-boggling. Horrendous.

Another one of those "if anyone doesn't think we need feminism any more" articles.

This was so baffling to me - it's so far outside of anything that could possibly be relevant or important.

Unless they think they're going to be fighting unicorns?

Don't you just love the "men have to trust their wives" angle because soldiers are away a lot? And we all know what pristine pillars of respectability some soldiers are when away from their partners don't we?

No, it's just more of the same old women as possessions of men crap.

Men can do what the hell they like, where they like, when they like but their property must behave itself mustn't it?

It's just, yes, baffling.

Testing a bride was a virgin in medieval times well not great obviously but you can kind of get the logic.

This is just subjecting women and girls to (pointless) tests to check that they are "moral" and if they aren't they get denied basic stuff. And there's different reasons given isn't there. For insisting girls and women let strangers stick their fingers up them. From punishment / a warning to others (which is what the Egyptian actions were about really I'm sure) to deciding whether you're moral enough to be allowed a certificate to say you can do your school lessons to an acceptable level.

The fact that we used to do it was horrifying.

And where is the logic. The "test" is nonsense, it doesn't work, it's unscientific. And then, whether a girl is a virgin or not, sadly, doesn't always have anything to do with her own choices so the "morality" argument is ridiculous. I mean the whole thing is just ridiculous.

And yet with so many things, judgements on females based on their actual or perceived sex lives are replicated everywhere, just it's more obvious what's going on here.

The "two-finger test" wtf ?

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 18/05/2015 11:53

Not to mention the fact that virginity testing is nonsense anyway, there is no accurate way to test whether a woman's vagina has been penetrated by a penis. It's as scientific as the 'gay test' that looks at the shape of men's anuses Confused

A finger in the anus Shock Confused
What does that have to do with the price of fish? Angry
I wonder how many of these tests were devised by sexual predators.

WhirlpoolGalaxyM51 · 19/05/2015 19:43

To check for anal sex I would imagine.

That should say "check", really.
