I sick to death of being assaulted by photos of women with their legs spread open and all their wears on display, tucked in between completely innocuous topics like flower photos on line. If only for the fact that these perfectly waxed and trimmed bodies, with mens idea of perfect lips or clitoris make me feel messy, inferior and old fashioned. But seriously why do we have to put up with this, just because the settings are all wrong. The most modest won't even allow online browsing for new underwear. I would like to share a few of the worst offending pictures just to prove my point, but doubt that mumsnets sensor will allow it. It would be nice if they could black out the offending bits to let people see, what the fuss is all about. Or even the authorities could track down nikki 15 of big breast implants found on bing and see if she is aware of how her photo is being used.

So, what, you want to post porn on here to prove to us how offended you are by it? Thank fuck for the MN "sensor", is all I can say.

SunshineBossaNova · 16/04/2015 20:09

No thanks. We all know what porn looks like.

shaska · 16/04/2015 20:26

Is that you, Nikki 15?

PuffinsAreFictitious · 16/04/2015 20:26

What the fuck?

Jog on.

Oddly I don't encounter the problem described. And that's despite occasionslly buying online from Rigby and Peller.

I didn't read the OP that way - to me it wasn't that they wanted to post porn on MN but that they were calling out its prevalence in pop ups and sidebar adverts when looking at unrelated items on t'interweb.

Settings are a large element so yes in most cases we will not be shown porn when looking up underwear because the space is being used to show something else you've expressed an interest in (go away dress advert from Debenhams - I can't afford you). Obviously is you have been looking (or someone has been looking while logged in as you) then that would appear as your interest.

However I would agree that porn crops up as a default with ridiculous frequency in some areas - I clicked on one of the file sharing sites while trying to find who the actress was in an old Peter Ustinov film* and the ads there were all of the type OP mentions.

Ad placers are not showing us porn because society is changing, they are showing us something else because they are getting better at predicting what we are likely to buy, OP (as I read it) was commenting on the fact that porn is still there in the default and that is depressing. That the types include barely or illegal in the default is even more so.

*btmon (don't click) if you're interested and PUs daughter in the Thief of Bahgdad was his real life daughter not the actor who plays Deanna Troi in Star Trek (just telling you so you don't lose a bet if this comes up)

Weird! I don't get assaulted by porn when browsing flower photos. The only time I got assaulted by porn was when XH had used my laptop to watch it and I got a virus thing. All the regular ads were replaced by pictures of boobs and extortions to 'chat now! Real hot moms online near YOU!' Awkward.

OP have you considered clearing your cache?
