I just saw this ad pop up while I was on another thread and it made me feel a little queasy.

I think it's something to do with bump painting (which in itself is obviously fine), and it's clearly playing off the back of Pimp My Ride etc.

But still... I don't know, there seems to be something wrong with using language like this in connotation with a baby bump! I certainly don't want my bump seen in this way, like it's property rather than a piece of me.

I think people when they use the phrase 'pimp my...' Have forgotten what pimp actually means. Like people who describe their children as sexy. pimp my pregnant belly is a revolting concept.

This along with the tendency to use porn for everything eg I have a friend who is always posting stuff from a site called word porn, really gets to me. It's like violence against women is being written out of everyday narrative - lots of people pride themselves on under thinking though...

I still boycott Giraffe because they once ran a promotion called "Pimp your Pizza" - I wrote an email of complaint, pointing out that as a family-oriented restaurant, did they really expect us to go there if I thought I was going to have explain to my then 4 yr old what a pimp was.

I got a reply back that basically said "all the cool kidz know that pimp just means gussied up these days, NOBODY thinks it means anything nasty, it's just fun, k? And anyway, I'M a woman and I'm not offended so you shouldn't be either, you humourless old bag. So Ner."

Not impressed.

Yikes, I saw this title and assumed it was about surrogacy!

I'm really glad other people agree with me on this! On their facebook page it's just full of people cooing over painted bellies, which is fine, but the hashtag #pimpmybump makes me want to punch sometning.
