Hello just a quick question about this blog. I sporadically visit and binge read loads of posts. One of my absolute favourites. I just tried and it is now marked as private and locked, requiring me to log in. Does anyone know how I can access it again?

Thanks Smile [

It is because she signed Bea Campbell's letter that was in The Guardian against the silencing of feminists who don't think you can change sex, or who don't like the word cis. Peter Tatchell and Mary Beard also received a lot of hate for signing it.

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 24/02/2015 13:02

to be fair, though, grimble, it's not just women that MNHQ would police on this matter (and yes I know, of course the majority of posters on here are women), it's any poster on this site, male or female, who doesn't respect, in general, an individual's right to choose which pronoun they want to be referred by.

Now in this particular case, what the individual in question has allegedly* done to Glosswitch and her children is completely unacceptable, but MNHQ have no authority over that because none of it happened on MN.

*ho hum

ChoochiWoo · 24/02/2015 13:11

So what is general feminist theory IRT gender identity crisis?, DLT is obviously an extremely disturbed individual

PuffinsAreFictitious · 24/02/2015 13:27

Lucy..... That's only partly true. Once you're on the block bot you're chances of being doxxed, hacked and threatened in this way increase. Yes, she signed the letter, but they have been gunning for her for a while.

rivetingrosie · 24/02/2015 13:28

Have any of you read this? Really great!

www.newstatesman.com/politics/2015/02/when-i-was-raped-it-was-female-only-spaces-helped-me-recover

(warning: there's a graphic description of rape at the beginning, you might want to skip the first section)

The problem is there are several CoochiWoo. There is the thought that sex is dimorphic (apart from a small number of intersex people) and gender is a socially constructed hierarchy imposed on the sexes. Some feminists (me included) would like to get rid of gender completely and men and women could be who they want to be rather than conforming to and performing 'femininity' or 'masculinity'. Obviously as feminists we are more concerned with how the femininity aspect is at the bottom of the pile. There is also the recognition that women are oppressed because of their biology and the gender hierarchy is imposed because of their biology.

The other side of the coin sees gender and sex as much more fluid. And that you can be born with a woman's brain inside a man's body, so that in fact makes you a woman (that is very simplified and I am not the person to develop those arguments out as generally I don't agree with them or in some cases understand them). But for me it eradicates the fact that oppression occurs because of biology.

There is a lot of debate as to what 'feeling like a woman' actually is. I don't feel like a woman. I am one. I don't like performing femininity though. But does that make me a man?

OutsSelf · 24/02/2015 13:32

This is really upsetting. Glosswitch is brilliant, I really rate her.

Threatening and harassing her and her children - WTF? I just can't see this as anything but blatant misogyny.

scallopsrgreat · 24/02/2015 13:34

Yes agreed Puffins. She's put her head above the parapet and they have consistently taken pot shots at her.

ApocalypseThen · 24/02/2015 15:01

I know. I'm trying to imagine this as behaviour typical of classic woman, but it all seems very neo woman to me.

rivetingrosie · 24/02/2015 15:38

exactly scallops

Try asking someone who "feels like a woman on the inside" to define 'woman' without using the word 'woman'. It's impossible. This womanly essence they appeal to seems to be almost magical.

BriarRainbowshimmer · 24/02/2015 15:40

Yes it upsets me too that we must be "nice" to someone like this. Like you describe ArcheryAnnie Flowers

In this context, refering to this harasser as a she hides the fact that it's the same old male harassment of women on the internet. The MRAs, the gamergaters, this type of trans activists, general misogynists, they all behave the same towards outspoken women online.

grimbletart · 24/02/2015 15:53

I understand what you are saying Freddie but TBH I am sick and tired of pussyfooting around (by women, men or transgender people) these objectionable transactivists. Transactivists who threaten, harass and generally act obnoxiously to the point where others are driven off the web for their own and children's protection have lost the right to decide what pronouns they choose. As Briar says they are the same old MRAs pushing their befuddled agenda.

grimbletart · 24/02/2015 15:55

Yes House - "they" is probably the solution.

ArcheryAnnie · 24/02/2015 16:22

Thank you Buffy, Knickerful and Briar. I had to walk away from this thread for a bit.

House, grimble, I used "they" after my first post got deleted, and the "they" post was deleted too.

ArcheryAnnie · 24/02/2015 16:27

And I just want to say that I have been, and continue to be, really grateful for MN for this space to talk - sometimes it feels like it's the only place we are allowed to discuss this on the interwebs, now. Perhaps that's why I am so upset at what has happened here on this thread.

lucymam · 24/02/2015 16:33

That is ironic, since some Trans people's preferred pronoun actually is they.

lucymam · 24/02/2015 16:34

There are facebook groups and email lists where feminists talk openly about these issues.

GibberingFlapdoodle · 24/02/2015 16:43

Late good-wishes to Glosswitch.

And as someone else said why isn't this individual (is that a safe word I ask myself?) in prison? Have complaints not been made, are they being investigated?

BriarRainbowshimmer · 24/02/2015 17:18

So are we not allowed to write "they" instead of he or she here?! What?!

Smartleatherbag · 25/02/2015 16:04

Ffs just saw the mn message. I despair, I really do.
