Have you heard about David Osborne's blog?

David is a barrister who cares deeply for "red blooded males" and the blog that's made the news is called "She's gagging for it".

You can probably guess what it's about. He also manages to throw in a bit about why he thinks the title Ms is insulting.

It looks like he has a few other interesting posts on there too.Hmm

OP posts:
PetulaGordino · 08/02/2015 00:39

Presumably, given he already believes that male violence is innate

Selks · 08/02/2015 11:33

I'm so shocked by this bloke's attitudes. He should be struck off or whatever the equivalent is. I'm surprised that there is not more visible outrage over this.

meandjulio · 08/02/2015 11:47

Selks it is IMO futile to try and stop people having offensive thoughts and people shouldn't be struck off or disbarred for thinking or writing these things - it isn't illegal to think that Ms is a stupid title, lots of MN posters would say the same although they're completely wrong . It's more important to ensure that those thoughts don't result in other people being disadvantaged. By, for example, ensuring that he never becomes a judge...

TwiceForkedLightningTree · 08/02/2015 13:17

Yes we were talking about this in the pub. Depressing.

Wouldn't say that about male rape would he. In fact given the possibility of male rape all men shouldn't go out either, that would save us all some trouble.

I really think the way legal people are appointed has to be looked at. I know that law is not the same thing as ethics, sadly (it was for the ancient greeks if you're interested), but people like this are not capable of treating all people the same before the law and should therefore not be sitting in judgement.

PetulaGordino · 08/02/2015 13:20

Can you imagine if you were a woman who was a victim of rape about to go on the witness stand, and he was for the defence, knowing what he has written?

meandjulio · 08/02/2015 13:23

Yes but you'd have a lawyer of your own, a judge, a jury and most importantly the law itself.

I'm not sure that that would make things much better. There is a difference between assuming that the defendant has a lawyer who is going to do their best to present that defence, and knowing that that lawyer thinks so very very little of women that they really are essentially not human to him. I'm not saying the former is likely to be any easier for the witness to go through, of course

Anonynonny · 08/02/2015 17:31

Thanks for posting this, another candidate for a #NotNorman, I think.

LillyEvans · 08/02/2015 17:40

Actually Twice and Petula, I hadn't properly thought about being in a court room with him.

Surely there should be laws out thereto stop practising legal representatives from broadcasting these kind of views.

OP posts:
LillyEvans · 08/02/2015 17:48

The law is supposed to be impartial, or so I thought. He is going to be making judgements on people before he knows the full facts.

OP posts:
PuffinsAreFictitious · 08/02/2015 17:58

God help us all if he enters the judiciary. Imagine someone with those views acting as a judge.

Except of course we don't have to imagine it, we see it every day.

slug · 08/02/2015 17:59

"Red blooded males". What colour is female blood do you think? Sparkly pink perhaps?

grimbletart · 08/02/2015 18:25

I think "red blooded males" slug means "spring into action penis, there's a female…."

AKnickerfulOfMenace · 08/02/2015 19:05

Does that mean aristocrats don't rape, because they are blue blooded?

PuffinsAreFictitious · 08/02/2015 19:07

Does that mean that aristo females have baby blue sparkly blood?

I don't remember any of this from college.....

AKnickerfulOfMenace · 08/02/2015 19:10

Yeah. That's what Anna's dress in Frozen is actually made of. Frozen aristo blood.

She's NAILS, is Anna.

AKnickerfulOfMenace · 08/02/2015 19:11

(Or maybe Elsa. The magic one, anyway)

Anonynonny · 08/02/2015 21:06

Is "red blooded man" just a euphamism for "rapist" or am I being uncharitable?

AKnickerfulOfMenace · 08/02/2015 21:15

YANBUncharitable

Anonynonny · 08/02/2015 21:33

Oh I notice that he's changed the original blog post and made it less rapey. But he gets a #NotNorman anyway because we've got a screen grab of the original post and he definitely said that a victim being drunk should always be a complete defence for rape, the creepy little bastard.

David Osborne is not like Norman

PetulaGordino · 08/02/2015 21:35

Aw did he realise he might be damaging his professional reputation? Shame...

PuffinsAreFictitious · 08/02/2015 21:38

A link with the original text, in all it's rapey glory

Just in case anyone hasn't seen it.

Content note: It's a bit triggery and makes the writer look like a complete knobhead.

AKnickerfulOfMenace · 08/02/2015 21:47

" By way of clarification, I withdraw unreservedly the suggestion I made and reported in the Mirror that a woman incapacitated by drink or drugs or both cannot be raped. However, I remain concerned about Ms. Saunders’s proposed manipulation of the system by coaching witnesses before they give evidence (see my earlier blog), as well as seeking ways to excuse inexcusable behaviour."

His new postscript...

LadyBlaBlah · 08/02/2015 21:50

Wow he is unbearably thick.

Misogynists like him usually are.

It would be funny if he didn't have such a responsible influential job.

I pity any rape survivors who have had to deal with him in the courts.
