Mine is Andy Murray. He was coached by his mother first and had to defend her against criticism. Now he has Amelie Mauresmo and was criticised by some male players for choosing a woman coach. Now he is through to the Australian Open Final and openly praised her in his post match interview.

“A lot of people have criticised me for working with her but we’ve showed this week that women can be very good coaches as well.

“Madison Keys, who also made the semi-finals here, is also coached by Lindsay Davenport. Hopeful that can keep going."

It was noticeable that when he was presented with his SPOTY trophy in 2013 by Martina Navratilova he called her "the best player in the world" - not the best woman player.

He may be grumpy sometimes on court, but he's put those who denigrate women's tennis in their place.

Kudos Andy Smile

Just came on this thread to say Andy Murray too but see that's who you nominated! great to hear him saying what he did.

AWholeLottaNosy · 29/01/2015 13:59

Scratching my head here. Hmmm Billy Bragg and Paul Heaton ( Beautiful South) both spoke out against Ched Evans.

There must be more ( surely?), but I honestly can't think of any.

Wannabestepfordwife · 29/01/2015 14:12

Dara O'Briain, Richard Ayoade

whatdoesittake48 · 29/01/2015 17:32

Not so sure about David Attenborough as he was a bit lecherous on the Graham Norton show the other night. Was a bit disappointed if I am honest. My fave feministy celeb man is .....ummm. I can't think of any. Will keep trying.

invisiblecrown · 29/01/2015 17:32

Alan Rickman.

Didn't know that about Andy Murray, that's cool. I love him for being a grumpy sod and refusing to behave all gleaming and smiley like the press want to

The lovely Mr Cumberbatch has said that he doesn't like the term 'Cumberbitch' and has described himself as a feminist

Danny Boyle said that he was challenged by his adult daughters about why he had never had a woman as a leas character in his films and he promised to sort it out, which he did with Trance. He also went out of his way to set up a trust fund for the child actors in Slumdog which is conditional on them staying in education until they are 16, which I consider pretty damn feminist in a broader sense. And appointed an Indian woman as co director on Slumdog. I could talk all day about DB!

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 29/01/2015 17:39

Adam Hills, Kermode and Mayo

CuttedUpPear · 29/01/2015 17:44

Billy Brag here as well.
I follow his posts on FB, he has some great excellent stuff on there.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 29/01/2015 17:48

Dara O'Briain sent me a mansplainy tweet once when I said something about representation of women on panel shows.

Yes, I went off him after his comments on that.

Joss Whedon is one of mine. Surprised no-one's mentioned Gosling though.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 29/01/2015 17:49

And Patrick Stewart, obviously.

BakewellSlice · 29/01/2015 17:52

Andy Murray is great.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 29/01/2015 17:53

What about Mitchell and Webb, who have both written very feministy stuff in their columns and did that brilliant 'women, sort yourselves out' sketch?

AWholeLottaNosy · 29/01/2015 18:01

Weirdly, Gordon Ramsay! Saw him interviewed on Johnathan Ross last year and he was doing a run in aid of Women's Aid! I was a bit taken aback but apparently his dad was abusive and he is an ardent supporter of WA. Who would have thought it?

Oh, Will Young is also a patron of a DV charity ( can't remember which one).

Yes to Mitchell and Webb.

AWholeLottaNosy · 29/01/2015 18:02

I would also say Owen Jones but he's a writer not a celeb. Still think he's fab tho.

AWholeLottaNosy · 29/01/2015 18:04

Once upon a time I would have said Woody Allen as I always found his portrayal of women very sympathetic in his films. However when I read Mia Farrow's account of finding pornographic photos of their adopted daughter that he had taken, something inside me died that day. Sad

tribpot · 29/01/2015 18:08
.

And well done Murray - wtf has gender got to do with anything? You choose the best person you think is best placed to help you win, it's completely simple.

invisiblecrown · 29/01/2015 18:14

Can't believe I forgot Ian McKellen!

This speech made me cry real, sobbing tears:

rinabean · 29/01/2015 18:21

What's the point, they'll all turn out to have been raping their daughters or something. Every time you think "oh he seems like he likes women, he would never do that" - it comes out in the news he does/did. Ugh!

I've never heard anything bad about Patrick Stewart, who I think is a great actor, and he takes male violence against women very seriously and campaigns against it. Like he fully blames the men and says growing up around it isn't an excuse either (his dad beat his mom). And he's old and been famous for so long that you'd think if he was secretly a shit it would have come out by now, but who knows :(

tribpot · 29/01/2015 18:33

invisiblecrown, you know that's Patrick Stewart in the video? Bloody good video, had me in tears too.

Oh jesus tribpot - I get them mixed up all the time! Despite the title of the video. I'm extra clever, obviously.

LineRunner · 29/01/2015 18:51

Adam Hills here, too.

Specificity · 29/01/2015 18:54

Joseph Gordan-Levitt, often talks about being a feminist and does pieces about it with his production company.
