DS2 (16) in A level English class today, during a debate about gender inequality, countered someones assertion that dropping P3 means "putting people out of work" with " P3 is only one very small part of that sort of career and it's also offensive to me as a male to be told that attractiveness can only be found in a very narrow definition"

My work here is done :) On the downside, he was asking me how best to distance himself from (and I quote) "the nobs" in his class, as some of their comments made him quite angry. Ah son, welcome to adulthood - dealing with the nobs is a valuable lesson indeed!

I had a similarly proud moment when at the end of term service my DS2 refused to read a piece in the bible which included a line about women obeying men. He just told his teacher he intended to skip out that part of the reading as it was sexist, inappropriate and insulting to women - and despite being told he should read the text, he did exactly what he said he would do in front of 600 pupils. He is 13
