What do you think of this young woman's response to being a victim of 'revenge porn'?

I just saw this video and I was impressed by this woman's clarity and dignity after having her private nude photos being posted on the internet. Wondered what other people thought..?

tbh I wonder if this is akin to the roleplay and promiscuity some rape victims are said to indulge in, to take back control.

And this bit"If the men who contacted me thought about my humiliation, about my humanity, would they still write me?" Sadly the answer is yes, probably. At least the men indulging in physical harassment would, that is why they are doing it, that is what they feed off. Ime anyway.

Not a reaction I could follow. But perhaps healthier than some others? Whatever helps the individual, I guess.

I can't see it will make the slightest difference to any one who saw the stolen pictures and contacted her. If anything may give validation to their thinking it's not that bad, what's she making a fuss about?

Hmm maybe it helps her to be in control of naked images of herself rather than feeling utterly powerless? Because there was literally nothing she could do to stop the photos being posted and shared, as well as the abuse and threats she endured. I can understand it.

I think the video is articulate with or without the photos (which are semi naked and not particularly sexualised)

I wonder why ( some ) men get off on the humiliation and lack of consent? I guess it makes them feel more powerful?

I thought she articulated her argument and response very well, but the more I think about it the more I'm not sure that the naked pics would help - but maybe it's just enough that they helped her?

I don't get it. What power is it and how is she taking it back? It does look more like a trauma response to me.

She could find out who hacked her accounts, if she had forensic IT help.

Maybe a prosecution would be cathartic?

I think she's a very articulate and brave woman, and applaud her, her family and her friends. I think the photos are a good idea, if only that searches for her online will bring up these contextualised pictures of her as well as the non consensual ones.

Some men seem to be very cut off from their own humanity to not have empathy, or not to develop their empathy for another. It's their loss too. I think you become less human if you do these things: seems a shocking waste of your precious human life.

Yy Buffy. If it swas about the "pretty bewbs", her new pictures would be as "welcomed " as her stolen ones.- she's demonstrating that the nudity without the power thrill is nowhere near as potent for many.

I'm not sure it's empowering per se, but it makes a good point.

I agree Buffy that the pictures don't objectify her and I'm pleased for her if they make her feel better. Her video was powerful in talking about the way men responded to her. I'm sure a lot of men will watch the video in the hope of seeing some more pictures of her breasts and they will be rewarded for watching the video by getting that.

It makes me think of this picture of a crowd at a topless protest. I saw another picture from this event that shows one woman standing in front of the crowd but I can't find that one. The crowd was very close and almost everyone was a man with a camera.

It's gruesome isn't it. These are not random passers-by, the event was publicised beforehand so a lot of them would have made their way there specifically for this purpose. Ugh.
