Carry on.

OP posts:

I have no cause to use academic libraries these days, but I love my local library. Especially their online reservations. My old area charged for that privilege. Here it is free and I can knock myself out!

UptoapointLordCopper · 03/02/2015 10:52

Lightening I do tell them. Smile We have a good relationship with our subject librarian.

Our local library has all these electronic interfaces but recently they changed their system and now you don't know if your reserved book has arrived or not. Hmm

But all in all I have not much quarrel with our libraries. Which is nice. Grin

Very slow deep breaths and count down from 100?

Ermmmm. Maybe go with the running and a quick sprint round the block then. Grin

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 03/02/2015 12:00

This sounds odd, but when I need to think about things calmly, I do something with my hands (like colouring in or simple crochet or knitting or even exercise like running) that requires a little bit of brain power, but not all. Maybe that would work?

Yes, outside is best for thinking.

Do not attempt complex thinking when on a treadmill, in public. You will fall off. It will be more embarrassing than you imagine.

PetulaGordino · 03/02/2015 13:46

i stumbled across this today, and found it interesting

www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2015/01/why-i-am-not-a-maker/384767/

i can't comment on the tech stuff obviously, but i hadn't come across this distinction of "maker" in this way. i would add to her comments that anything that women have made tends to be devalued itself too

UptoapointLordCopper · 03/02/2015 14:23

BuffyBot (cute name) are you still running about in circles? What's this exciting thing?

I'm now writing hot air.

Remember, "When in danger, when in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout".

UptoapointLordCopper · 03/02/2015 18:32

Exactly. Note, no mention of treadmills.

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 03/02/2015 21:17

Can't run in a circle on a treadmill.

How goes the thinking buffy?

UptoapointLordCopper · 03/02/2015 21:32

Can't run anywhere on a treadmill. Grin

PuffinsAreFictitious · 03/02/2015 21:42

When body building, don't go on the treadmill the day after leg day. All of a sudden, your legs will refuse to work and you'll flop off the bloody thing, really hurting yourself and making yourself look like a complete fuckwit.

Words to live by, I feel.

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 04/02/2015 10:08

Cross-trainers are equally dangerous. Just when you think you've got it, and you start to get a bit over-confident, your legs forget what way they are meant to be going and then you fall off sideways. At speed.

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 04/02/2015 10:19

I've done that on the cross trainer too. Many years ago when I was fit mind, not recently!

ChunkyPickle · 04/02/2015 10:40

Oh god, treadmills, cross trainers, and listening to music on an ipod. The number of times my hand would catch the wires and send the ipod flying across the room at someone's head/under someone's feet/under one of the machines....

I had to get a bluetooth pair of headphones just to stop the carnage.

PetulaGordino · 04/02/2015 10:50

i can't do running indoors. it makes me feel peculiar

UptoapointLordCopper · 04/02/2015 10:51

I don't do running indoors or out...

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 04/02/2015 11:02

I cannot do running either. Not post babies.

Thanks for the heads up Yonic. I've added my name. Must see if I can find the time it was discussed recently on A Good Read, because (although obviously a tiny sample) the male and female reactions to the book were interesting.
