It's dp who's the snob - I'm with you puffins Wink

EBearhug · 29/01/2015 21:05

I agree Henry VII is more interesting. He failed to produce much scandal though, being all sensible about money and stuff, so that's why he's overlooked.

PetulaGordino · 30/01/2015 06:57

I remember enjoying anya seton's katherine as a teenager which obviously gives the Tudor ancestry

Apparently elizabeth of York was 5' 11.5"

Thing that has made me grumpy this morning:

The today programme noted that all the papers are reporting kim sears swearing whilst watching Andy Murray playing tennis. This is apparently observed through lip reading

John humphries interviewed annabelle croft (who I am sure has far more important things to think about) about this, who basically said that KS is a "lovely girl" who "unfortunately" got caught out and she will probably be more careful in future. JH asked if we would view a male partner of a tennis player in the same way, AC said we would probably scrutinise just as much

Grr

  1. WHY IS THIS NEWS?? Adult woman swears in emotionally charged situation shocker!
  1. If it were the male partner of a tennis player the cameras would merely glance at him and it certainly wouldn't be broadcast much. It's only through continuous training of the cameras on her that this was noticed
UptoapointLordCopper · 30/01/2015 08:36

If they want news about women swearing they should come here. It would make their eyes water. Grin

YonicScrewdriver · 30/01/2015 08:41

Yup! And we could teach Kim to say wankbadger.

PuffinsAreFictitious · 30/01/2015 08:42

I'm very happy to say all manner of not-ladylike words on camera whenever they offer to pay me to do so.

PetulaGordino · 30/01/2015 08:53

dp was very amused by how "unladylike" my response was to this "news"!

FuckOffGroundhog · 30/01/2015 09:10

Does anyone know why The Who are still playing concerts? I thought after Saville we were collectively becoming less accepting of sexual abuse against children? Have we just conveniently forgotten about Pete Townshend paying for child sex abuse images thing because they play a good tune? Or do people believe it was really "research"

FuckOffGroundhog · 30/01/2015 09:11

Ah shit sorry that was meant to be a new thread, but anyway. Yes, why is he?

He was given a caution Hmm and put on the register for 5 years. So, clearly someone thought he was looking at sex abuse..but didn't care enough to actually give him jail time.

A friend came up to me in the pub yesterday to tell me all about why he thinks CE is innocent. It's

You might want to give the friend a wide berth. Especially if you had been drinking at the pub. Seriously, do men realise what they are actually saying when they excuse his behavior? If you had been quite drunk would he have been happy for someone to walk in to your room and "have a go"? Angry

But I didn't have the energy last night.

:( there's always that feeling that you should though isn't there? Like it's your job to politely and repeatedly explain to people why it's not OK.

BreakingDad77 · 30/01/2015 10:11

or maybe if he'd been quite drunk would he have been happy for another man to walk in to your room and "have a go"with him.

FuckOffGroundhog · 30/01/2015 10:18

I actually went for the jugular (which is far less draining) and straight up asked if he thought I was a liar, given that he obviously thinks women can't be trusted to tell the truth about these things. (As CEs defence was that the victim was less drunk than she claims, and was lying about not remembering

Good for you Flowers

I've tried that approach breakinngdad, they normally say "but I'm not gay" Confused Which obviously implies that the woman must have been a bit sexually attracted to her attacker as the sexuality seems somehow relevant. Also, "it's worse for men" Confused oh is it?

I think now I'd just turn it back on them and ask if they had been in the same position, would they have raped her too. Men seem to have this weird blind spot, where they don't want to be thought of as rapists, but are falling over themselves to excuse other men's rapist behaviour.

I'm swiftly coming to the conclusion that what men say about the new guidance around investigating rape allegations tells me whether or not they've ever raped someone. And yes, that might be unfair, but once they've had it explained to them, and they still believe that it makes men who are accused of rape guilty until proven innocent, then I don't think it is.

StormyBrid · 30/01/2015 10:27

Of course it's worse for men who are raped - everyone knows being penetrated against your will is magically less traumatising if you fancy your rapist. The mind boggles at the logic.

And I'm not remotely surprised looking at images of child sex abuse only warrants a caution. I was repeatedly orally raped, frequently, between age two and age five. He was sentenced to three years' community rehabilitation. The mind still boggles, and then comes to the conclusion that the world simply doesn't care all that much.

brid Flowers

a number of my friends were raped at university, none reported their rapists. in one case she was persuaded not to by his friends, because he was studying law and wanted to be a lawyer, and a criminal record would ruin his chances. i don't know what he is doing now
