Uniform thread update.. MP meeting tomorrow

Hi

I've had a long running thread about my dd's school not allowing girls to wear trousers as part of uniform.. Can't link as on phone. Anyway, all attempts to get school to change policy have failed and due to dd crying with the cold last week we got her a Dr note and she is now wearing trousers.

I still want this ridiculous rule changed though. I have a meeting with my MO tomorrow to try and get his support and to float the idea that it should be illegal for schools to discriminate in this manner as it is in employment situations.

Anyway, any tips for me ahead of the meeting? I've hardly slept al week and am far from feeing at the top of my game

OP good luck with your challenge and well done for tackling this sexist issue head on. However, I'm not sure going down the DD crying because her leg are cold road is the right thing to do. Polyester trousers aren't warm for boys or girls and cuddly thick tights are warm and toasty.

Mince that's only relevant for why I got the Dr letter, my dd can't wear tights as she suffers with thrush.

Good luck fish. It's appalling that this is still legal. I found it appallingly uncivilised back in the 1980s that we were forced to wear skirts in winter - and we weren't allowed to wear tights with them either, socks had to be below knee length. So it could be minus 5 outside, and as long as it wasn't raining you would be forced outside with a vicious wind going up your skirt and round your knickers.

If you can wear trousers you can wear the toasty tights under them as well, whether you're a girl or boy - and layering really is the best way to keep warm in winter. Trousers and tights together are far warmer and more practical than skirt and tights.

I'm in central Europe (where it gets really cold in winter) and there are no uniform requirements at school. As a consequence kids voluntarily dress much more sensibly and practically - fur-lined boots, jeans, warm tights and two pairs of socks. I can even get them to wear coats and hats/gloves etc. I'm so so glad my DC aren't at school in the UK and we have to deal with the kind of shite you've experienced.

Well done you! Girls uniform sometimes makes me boggle. Those ridiculous Mary Janes when boys wear warm, supportive shoes that cover their whole feet, and on the day when the temperature dropped below freezing in the morning I saw a girl at school in skirt and socks! Ridiculous. To be fair girls at DS school can wear trousers so it's a choice rather than rule but a bloody ridiculous one.

Is it a State school? I can't believe State schools are allowed to do this.
