Oh fuck off... Superheroes for CIN

Just picked up DD from CM and have been told it's superhero day for children in need 'but the girls can just go as princesses'. Ermmm fuck off. If it's superhero day, she goes as a superhero. What do I do now? Buy a superhero outfit and probably exclude her from the girls or follow like a sheep and let her be a beautiful princess? I'm sure she would live both...

Plumping I love that your DH doesn't stop it tho.

I must say DP is definitely a feminist, though he would never identify as one. He cooks, he cleans. Can't see a reason why I couldn't bring home as much as him, doesn't expect me to have my money as 'pocket money', doesn't see me being female as a reason I can't do DIY/repair work on the house and I love him for that.

I'm thinking... Black leggings and top (if I can find) magic superhero wand, pink underpants and cape and a mask...

phonyics

WonderWoman
Xena, Warrior Princess (ok, a princess, but she doesn't wear pink tulle...)
Buffy
Black Widow
Storm
Thor (female Thor is a real thing now!)
Sarah Jane Smith
Gamora (Guardians of the Galaxy - played by Zoe Saldana)
Batwoman
Matilda
Rogue

tallulah I'm glad to hear that your DP does normally walk the walk Grin I'd push ahead with your DD as a superhero in that case and maybe he'll see that she can do both!

ChunkyPickle · 12/11/2014 11:46

Yep - rectangle of lycra and cut a short slot in one end. Made them for DSs party, looked great, made on demand as the kids arrived so they could pick colours.

I think it's going around - DP (generally a natural feminist) is being a bit reactive at the moment and blames it on me reading mumsnet. I'm going to buy Wifework and leave it lying around.

TallulahTwinkletoes · 12/11/2014 13:26

Where can I buy Lycra? I'm really struggling. Damn this school. Any material for a cape will do

Blush - I'm afraid I don't know - I sent DP off looking for some t-shirt fabric, and he came back with it from some market stall, having completely failed to find brightly coloured jersey instead and in the end it worked out better.

T-shirt fabric (or t-shirts) would work the same way - just not as shiny, and wouldn't drape quite so nicely.

PlumpingUpPartridge · 12/11/2014 13:38

If you want to go a wee bit PA, you could dress her up as Princess Pinkpower (or Pinkpants) and get her to pull big pink pants over pink leggings. Match with a pink sparkly cape (made of lycra) and you're there!

PedantMarina · 12/11/2014 14:40

Or, this is Hit Girl in her non-costume outfit. Basically a school uniform anyway. If your DD has hair that can do this, worth a try. Maybe have a bit of purple wig (just some threads) and a mask dangling out of her pocket, maybe swap her normal school bag for a suspiciously bulky duffel.

Some superheroes have an 'ordinary person' identity....

JosephineButler · 12/11/2014 14:47

In DS's last school we had the "Superhero or princess" thing. Was very tempted to send him as a princess but went with Doctor Who instead.

This year it is just Superheroes so DD is going as Professor River Song wearing jeans and denim jacket and carrying a sonic screwdriver. We are counting regeneration as a super power. An alternative we thought of was Hermione Granger.

lougle · 12/11/2014 15:11

I made this out of a couple of old t-shirts and a jumper. Took about 45 mins.

haha Maki... good luck with that one! Grin

Wonderwoman batgirl super girl, spider woman are all female super heroes for whoever asked up thread

TallulahTwinkletoes · 12/11/2014 20:55

I'm using the app so can't see pics. I'll have a look once dd is in bed.

I couldn't find a thing. It took over two hours and eventually I got a fitted bed sheet that I'm going to cut up, some PVA glue and a pritt stick (whichever works best wins) and some glitter.

I'm going to cut it up and sow. This will be my first sowing attempt. Confused

We had this with DD's school. I bought her an incredibles outfit from Amazon. She looked ace

Lambzig · 12/11/2014 21:16

DD 4 told me her hero was me (sob into sleeve), but that I didn't have any good outfits, so she wanted to dress as Spider-Man. She has her cousin's too large, muscle Spider-Man outfit with full head mask which is frankly terrifying.

Princesses is a hideous suggestion on 'hero' day, truly appalling.

MaxineQuordlepleen · 12/11/2014 21:35

Jimmy Corkhill bless you for the tshirt cape link. One trip to the charity shop and we have a cool, red, all purpose super heroine cape with a gold star on it (it was a Spanish beer tshirt). And we have a ninja type mask made from the sleeve. She's thrilled.

PedantMarina · 12/11/2014 21:43

Ahhh, "sowing". Hope your harvest is fruitful. Wink

JimmyCorkhill · 12/11/2014 21:44

Grin Sounds amazing.

Like Lambzig my DD1 is wearing the same Spiderman outfit with solid six pack. She looks terrifying too!

meglet · 12/11/2014 21:54

choochi I was thinking Hermione might be a good idea too.

aggressive love the idea of kitting them out in yellow and black jumpsuits.

I'm wondering if I can stretch the Superhero theme to a suffragette outfit Hmm.

TallulahTwinkletoes · 12/11/2014 23:04

Lambzig is she 4 or 4th DD? That's beautiful!

The sowing is terrible. I feel for DD having to wear it in public. I've spent the last however long cutting and have sown one side. One fucking side!

Oh dear pedant. I thought it didn't look right and I couldn't work out why.

My own mother has mocked me on my Facebook status.

I'm usually the corrector not the correctee. Shock
