Oh fuck off... Superheroes for CIN

Just picked up DD from CM and have been told it's superhero day for children in need 'but the girls can just go as princesses'. Ermmm fuck off. If it's superhero day, she goes as a superhero. What do I do now? Buy a superhero outfit and probably exclude her from the girls or follow like a sheep and let her be a beautiful princess? I'm sure she would live both...

So you can just buy a square of Lycra and cut a neck hole in it? Is that what we are saying? I'm not good at this...

Phonyics, Captain Marvel would be a good one. Pity it's impossible to find costumes.

Panzee · 11/11/2014 22:43

Nurse?

YonicScrewdriver · 11/11/2014 22:55

Captain Marvel (new film next year)

Stretching a point but Lara Croft?

YonicScrewdriver · 11/11/2014 22:55

Captain Janeway from Star Trek Voyager?

harryhausen · 11/11/2014 22:57

Both my dd9 and ds7 are going as Dr Who. Not a superhero with a mask, but definitely a hero in their eyes.

Our school just said 'heros'.

TheOnlyWayisGerard · 11/11/2014 23:00

DD is dressing up as Hit Girl from Kick Ass. Obviously she's not seen the films, but I've shown her the trailor and pictures and she now loves her purple wig and wants to be Hit Girl all the time!

TallulahTwinkletoes · 12/11/2014 08:07

Last night DP said "she loves princesses, she'll want to be a princess"

I asked her this morning and she said superhero

He's just text me...

I don't know why your so bothered about super hero stuff, you don't have issues with people buying her princess stuff for birthdays and Christmas Etc, no need for some morally correct gender role stance, stop reading mums net it's filling your head with shit

Oh dear

Our school are smart, they've done a colours day. No superheroes involved Wink

Stealthpolarbear · 12/11/2014 08:13

Merida is a princess who shoots arrows and saves her mother

Please can you pass on this Biscuit to your DH.
Insert it in an orifice of your choice.

PlumpingUpPartridge · 12/11/2014 08:18

Ouch. How long have you been with your DP? Has he said anything like that before?

And for the conversation you have with him:

I don't have a problem with princesses. I have a problem with them saying that the girls can just be princesses rather than superheroes. Superheroes are COOL, dammit! They do awesome things and save the world. Princesses can (sometimes) do awesome things, but mostly it's all about the sparkly dressed. For just one day, I think it might be nice to take the chance to do something different and focus on achievement rather than sparkles. Of course it's up to her, but I resent the school TELLING me that, in essence, girls should just be princesses. Fuck that shit.

And as for no need for some morally correct gender role stance, stop reading mums net it's filling your head with shit..... oh dear Hmm

TallulahTwinkletoes · 12/11/2014 08:34

I think I'm a bit aggressive with my feminism to him and that's why. That's pretty much what I said. I don't want her being told she can't do x or y because she's a girl. It's what she wants to do. She loves princesses and pink but also loves superheroes. She watches cartoons with her dad quite a lot like justice league etc so it's to be expected but she's not really mentioned it before

Oh and 7.5 years odd. DD is 3

Ok, but 'no need for a morally correct gender stance'? As in 'morally flawed gender stances are totally fine in this situation'? That would worry me slightly....

I've got the opposite problem; we have 2 DSs and the older one (who is 3) was sad this morning because I removed his nail varnish. I'm watching DH carefully for cracks in his 'I am totally all for non-gender-specific fun' stance and I do think he twitched a bit when DS demanded a reapplication of pretty pink glitter Grin it's interesting to see where our personal boundaries for gender-stereotyping start, I think - we often don't realise they've started and get all defensive but aren't sure why. Maybe that's the case with your DP right now.

PedantMarina · 12/11/2014 08:46

Black Widow. Please!!!

Black leather, red hair, kicks almighty ass, takes no nonsense from men. My kind of superhero.

ChoochiWoo · 12/11/2014 08:46

Its a bit rhubarb for daughters there isnt as much choice in standard shops i.e asda , matalan etc.

ChoochiWoo · 12/11/2014 08:55

Storm x men?

AggressiveBunting · 12/11/2014 09:01

The Bride from Kill Bill....

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 12/11/2014 09:07

DD is into supwrheroes. Spiderman bedding. Marvel pics on the wall Iron man PJs (yes, from the boys clothes section, but only out of protest, and because that was the only place to get them.) She got a morph suit and went as a (male) superhero to the last school dress up day. She'd dress up as Iron Man if the costumes would fit her. :)

ChoochiWoo · 12/11/2014 09:10

Hermoine?...stretching a bit?

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 12/11/2014 09:11

TBH, at that age, she can make one up! She can dress in whatever she wants to and be super hero Princess Electra, with xray vision, cape and spidey sense. Entirely up to her.

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 12/11/2014 09:13

Or give her a reed wig, a Scotts accent and a great big FO broadsword and she can go as the princess from Brave! Grin

ChoochiWoo · 12/11/2014 09:15

Good idea yegod ! I thought tiana cuz shes an unsimpering princess.

ArcheryAnnie · 12/11/2014 09:25

Showy oh my GOD, "Archaeology Girl" is brilliant!
