Thanks for this, I was ranting on the same subject last night.

What the hell is that guardian article linked in the Huff Post one saying? I usually like the guardian but the views in that article are disgraceful. He has already had his life ruined? Not as much as Reeva Steenkamp has.

Amethyst24 · 22/10/2014 13:58

Ugh, I knew it would be Simon Jenkins as soon as I read your comment, Norma. I heard him blathering away about this on the radio last night.

The thing is, I share a lot of his views about incarceration generally being a Bad Thing, but why the fuck has he picked this case to bang that drum about?

PuffinsAreFicticious · 22/10/2014 14:10

I was ranting at my poor DH about this yesterday. The whole thing has been framed around OP, with the occasional bone thrown to Reeva's parents and even more occasionally to Reeva herself.

Media portrayals have all been pictures of him looking serious or in tears, none that I've seen have been of him laughing, joking and smiling with others, smirking at things said. It all seems to be pointing to OP the sad, lonely, misunderstood disabled man and aiming for pity.

My pity is reserved for his victim, Reeva and her family. For the hindreds of Reevas in the world everyday who get no bloody justice at all.

messyisthenewtidy · 22/10/2014 14:42

Oh this drives me crazy!

When it happened my family was talking about this around the table. SIL said " it's such a loss of talent to the world". I said "Whose talent? His or hers?" To which she replied "meh, the world is full of models but there are few athletes like him".

It was a salutory lesson on what is considered important in this world.Sad

RIP Reeva Steenkamp, you were and deserved to carry one being far more than just a slightly famous mans girl friend Sad
