Oh that's good. Thanks Basil. I especially like the first bit where he just strips out the images and leaves the words and asks the simple question - is this how we speak about other humans? It's so clear and so obvious at that point what porn is about.

As a mother of boys and a girl - the boys fast approaching teenage years - online porn is something I feel both anxious about, and powerless to do anything about.

It is degrading, it is violent against women - it is not something I want any of my dc seeing - certainly in their early teens, before they've even experienced the real thing. I think the article about porn hijacking sexuality is very good too.

Sure, boys had always sought out Mayfair, Page3, M&S underwear catalogue etc - but it really is only in the last decade that such explicit/violent/misogynistic material has been available on a quick google search - I do think it's damaging to those exploited by the industry, and those boys/men/women/girls exposed to it.

It's a very good point, but he made it in the first paragraph, the rest of the article was totally unnecessary.

I don't think the rest of the article was unjustified, because you need to repeat and repeat and repeat to get it through the target mens' thick skulls!

i don't think the rest of the article was surplus to requirements either. you have to support your statements and explain your reasoning. otherwise most articles would be only as long as a twitter post with no reason for anyone to consider the background of the statement

but ask yourself, how much of a pornography industry would there be if men were all cosmically barred from masturbation while they watched?

And yes, free speech, no censorship, my girlfriend is more extreme than I am. His argument is poor.

He's probably not all that keen on strip clubs either, given that they also exploit women for the all powerful men's orgasm.

Could be wrong though, maybe he's only worried about exploitation and violence, racism, abuse and misogyny when it's filmed. Doubt it....

^This is exactly how I feel about the porn industry. Those words made me think of when I watched 12 years a Slave and felt physically sick. It was a deep, visceral reaction which made me feel shame, horror and sadness. I don't understand how anyone could find these actions a turn on. I know that people do but I will never, ever understand.

Isn't hate speech the counter to the freedom of expression/ speech argument? It's neat in that I don't have to make an argument that the individuals concerned are harmed through the production of porn, but that I am harmed because violent and misogynistic porn is hate speech against me as a woman

Yikes, that read slightly coldly... I should say I do regard the production of porn as damaging to the individuals concerned, but their apparent agency in that is used to nullify that argument

neofaust is your gf a dumb whore, pussy or ghetto bitch? A slut? Or any of the derogatory terms used in porn film titles and would you stand there while someone called her any of those things and defend their right to free speech. (Not that I am saying she is not capable of defending herself)
I am basically asking if you are comfortable referring to your partner in that kind of way? Or your mother or your daughter for that matter.
